Default Where does this Wire Connect To??

Found this wire hanging near the heater hoses.

Car is a 1970 base engine 4spd no a/c.

Can anyone tell me what the wire is for and where it should connect?

Thanks!

I had a loose green wire that joined the wiring harness just below the Alternator. It was for the water temp gauge. Connects between the spark plugs on my '68

Doesn't look like the correct connector to be the temp gage plus I think he said it was on the pass side by the heater hoses.

Just looked at my Doc rebuild 71' harness diagram, and it shows a green wire with that style connector as a TCS Temp switch jumper. It should come from the TCS relays on the firewall. I believe there is a temp switch in the right head on the 70 for the TCS system.

The green wire on my '71 goes to a sending unit on the passenger side head between the spark plugs and just to the rear of the chrome wing-nut in your picture.

I drew a red dot where you can stick your finger in there to feel the end of the sender. There is a hump in the spark plug wire cover just to the rear of the wing nut that is open from the side.

Is that the spot for the TCS wire to connect to?

I'll check that out tomorrow.

It's not the temp gauge wire...that is a green wire on the driver's side.

It may be the TCS wire, but I still can't see where it should plug into.

If you stick your finger down there to the rear of the chrome wing-nut in your picture, you'll feel an opening in the chrome shield where the sender is located. If you plug or un-plug it, you're doing it all in the blind because of the plug wire shield.

That single wire connector is part of the TCS wiring but the single doesnt plug onto the temp sender in the head. The single conn. plugs into a seperate harness that turns into a 2 wire conn. that plugs onto the temp sender in the head.Your probably missing the harness that actually plugs onto the temp sender.

Check this link out I'm pretty sure this is what you need to connect to the TCS switch in the head.Do you have the TCS solenoid on the manifold? If your not into originality you probably dont want this TCS on your car -it was an emission thing. It stopped the dist from vacuum advancing in 1st and 2nd gear.

You may be right...I might not want it, anyway.
The harness is probably missing as well. If it is an emission thing then I am sure I don't need it.
Thanks for the replies!

Rather than contradict I'll just provide a little info. The TCS wire on my '70 Lectric Limited harness is integrated into the harness. There is no 'pigtail' to buy, it simply plugs into the TCS solenoid on the intake located next to the carb.

The TCS system consists of 3 parts:

1. TCS switch located on drivers side of tranny
2. TCS relay located on firewall
3. TCS solenoid located next to carb on passengers side

TCS: Transmission Controlled Spark

Interesting...I thought the 70 used the temp. sender in the pass. head.I have a 70 350-350 that I work on that has the sender in the head.Is yours a lower HP?

The temp sender on all '70 SB is located in the drivers side head between the 1 & 3 plugs. There's a green wire coming off of the front harness near the alternator that plugs into it. See Nvts's picture.

Mine is the 350-300hp

Well, it is definitely not the TCS wire. The TCS solenoid is in place and has 2 wires connected to it like the diagram shows. This green wire is a single wire.

I tried looking for the connector at the "red dot" area, but couldn't find one there by feel or with a mirror.

Any other ideas?

Looking at a few diagrams there is a green wire for the TCS Temp. Switch Jumper. I'll assume thats the temp switch your refering to on the passengers cylinder head.

Solenoid on intake: Blue/Black
Relay on firewall: Blue/Green
Tranny switch: Black for 4 sp. Orange/Black for auto with Orange/Black-Pink on gas pedal.
Temp. Switch in Pass. head: Green

Yes, that's it. On my '71 350/270 4spd anyway. The single green wire with a jumper at the end (like the eckler's unit mentioned above) where the plug goes onto the sending unit in the head.

I put 4 red dots around it, and included a pic (excuse the mess).

Its a mirror image of where the temp sender is in the drivers head. Maybe your missing the temp sender like i am....

Jim looking at your diagram above-view A..the starter view.It looks like they have removed the wiring that pertains to the TCS and shows the TCS temp switch in the head.Otherwise what would that drawing of the starter have to do with the TCS?
This could be a case of make the drawing fit the already made up wiring harness.Just a thought.
Maybe someone else with a 70 can post a wiring harness drawing out of another 70 AIM or 70 shop manual.
