Default Dome Light Issues

I have a 78 coupe. The dome light does not come on when the doors or the light switch is activated. The light does work when I use a jumper wire and gound it. Is it possibly a bad switch? Any Ideas?

Very possible. You have two courtesy light switches, one in each door jamb. If these switches are bad they are easy to replace and you can find them through most any Vette parts vendor.

When you say the dome light doesnt work does that include the courtesy lights under the dash? Or do you mean just the dome light? How about the spare tire light?Do you have delayed courtesy lights?
If the headlight switch will not turn the courtesy lights on you have deeper problems than the door switchs.
If the HL switch will turn on the courtesy lights but not the dome or spare tire light then the ground lead in the c124 connector has probably pulled out.

The way the door switch works is when you open the door it grounds to the frame and completes the circuit. If you are jumping to ground and the light is coming on then I would say you have a ground OR a switch issue. I hope this helps

I do have a delayed courtesy light. The lights under the dash do work correctly, it is just the dome light. The lights under the dash will operate with the HL switch.

Is the c124 connector at the fuse box?

be careful here. when I first got my vette I had a faulty dome light. while trying to repair it the dash harness caught fire. no flames just smoke and burning wire smell. I cut the wires to all the courtesy interior lights out of the car and rewired them into a new on/off switch.

The c124 is at the left kick pad and the wires from it go in behind the kickpad and go down the left side of car.I think it will have around 5 or 6 wires in it.A white, light blue, brown, yellow and a dk green and maybe 1 or 2 others. The white is the ground for the dome and spare tire light. The light blue is for the t-top alarm, the brown ,yellow and dk green are for the rear tail lights.Try grounding the white on both sides of the connector and see if the dome comes on.Try it again with the door switch pushed in and see if grounding turns the ones under the dash on.Let us know what happens.
