Early 70 LT-1's had a larger oil pan, and they all had unique alternator and starter part #'s. I don't have the part #'s handy but someone here may be able to chime in.

So far I know of these items to look for:
1) 6500 red-line tach (5500 with AC)
2) hood
3) 27" radiator, no overflow container
4) aluminum intake with Holley carb
5) 370HP shifer data plate, 11:1 compression
6) single fuel line
7) M21 or M22 trans
8) posi rear with 3.70 or higher gears
9) L in the VIN for a '72
10) Heavy duty U-joints
11) Block numbers for 370 ('70) or 330 ('71-'72) HP motor

Anything missing?
a 70 LT1 did not come with AC and could only get them in 4 speed.

That would be great! I've not located too many candidates nearby so far but will let you know as soon as I do.

You forgot about the transistorized ignition. The only 350 to have that was the LT-1. This would be very erxpensive to duplicate. Just to get my TI back in working order will cost me about $1800 and I have all the parts except the coil and harness (TI distributor--check numbers, TI coil, TI harness, and TI amplifier). Look for the amplifier which is bolted to the drivers side front wheel well next to the radiator. The amount of meney it would cost to build an LT-1 it would be cheaper to buy one.

Buy from a reputable dealer that knows corvettes and will stand behind the car. Also talk to previous owners.

Good catch, but not all LT-1's had TI. My 72 w A/C does not.

M20 with 3.55 was the way it would come if you didn't order anything different; 3.36 or 3.70 also avail with M20.
M21 was optional and came with 3.70, could also order the 3.55 or 4.11 with M21.
The M22 was included with ZR1 all three years but could be ordered on the LT1 without ZR1 in 71 only.

3.36, 3.55, 3.70, 4.11 and 4.56 all were available with the 4.56 reserved for the ZR1 in 70 and 71.

Reading this thread is making me think I should call the original owner of my 70. I have his name on the protectoplate and have another thread going on trying to firgure out what some of the numbers mean. Another forum member looked the name up in Yahoo and found the phone number. I wasn't going to call as it is a different first name but it sounds like this could be good info to go with the paper.

Thanks

Steve,
I put that up for you... but maybe you didn't notice the street address is the same. 37 yrs. and still the same house. If I were in your shoes I would make that call every time.

Hey, 68: This is a nice guide for me to use. The one I'm checking out has B26 on the trim tag. I see this does not correspond to the same code for block casting number in yours above - yours is I with engine cast B. I assume B is for February for castings and September for final assembly?

The 1970 trim tag and block sequence begins in Jan 70. The trim build dates stop at Aug . The block dates continue on until Dec.:
Trim tag/block
a=Jan
b=Feb
c=March
d=April
e=May
f=June
g=July
h=August
block only
i=Sept
j=Oct
k=Nov
l=Dec

The 72 trim tags begin in Aug 71 and run through Aug 72. The blocks follow the same Jan thru Dec pattern which is A - L
a=aug 71
b=sept 71
c=oct 71
d=nov 71
e=dec 71
f=jan 72
g=feb 72
h=mar 72
i=apr 72
j=may 72
k=jun 72
l=jul 72
m=aug 72

Here's a couple pics of my friends #'s matching 70. His is early with the larger oil pan so no room for power steering.
