My Dad let me have the '69 Vette convert on numerous occaisions.

I drove it home when he bought it back in the early '80's.
I took it to the prom once.
I took it to Niagara Falls after the prom.
I took it to XXX MPH after school one day. He wondered how the oil level got so low.
I took it to the park with Karen & Pam sharing the passenger seat and a 12 pack of Miller in the back.

Good times

-Mark.

Speaking from experience, there is PLENTY of room to get crazy.

....as long as you have a tilt/telescopic wheel. I can't imagine it if I didn't.

It's kinda funny when you've got a squeaky shock, though.

Did I really just say that?

I wish I were 17 again and have what I have now. At 17 I had nothing. I wouldn't want to go back and start all over again and it is a lot tougher for the kids today to do what we did. Everything is too expensive.

You are a brave man my friend. They will remember this forever so I think you did the right thing. I'd be nervous as $hit though. At least it's an automatic and easier to drive.
I'll have to see how I feel when my son is 18 and want's to use the vette for his prom night.

I wish my childhood had been 1/10 as exciting.

My senior prom was my uncle's Honda Prelude. I don't think I even walked her to the door. Hey I way 17; I've learned a ot since then . . .

It all depends on the kid, if he's trustworthy, a good driver and not prone to show off, then sure. I could not have let my son, no way. It would not have mattered to him who was in the car, I'm sure he would have driven it like he stole it.

Anyway- I now am in a better situation and of course want my kids to have what I would have liked to have, but definately need to have them appreciate it!
And as far as the hanky panky part goes, I think they need to come up with some type of CORVETTE SUTRA BOOK for favorable positions as I am having a little difficulty seeing it happening in my 72.
Barely enough room for me on the driver side, Maybe both in the passenger seat is DOABLE!
we dont have a lot of money either, i just was lucky enought to work me A$$ off at the local road district... and bought it myself

Thanks for all of the replys.
He did fine. I only let them take it to the school and back. It's about a mile from the house. Maybe next year he can take it for the whole night. I don't even want to think about any hanky panky going on. I'm much too young to be a grandpa. The good thing is, his girlfriend is very religous and says she is planning to wait until she gets married.

Aw she's no fun.

Would you have wanted that when you were 17?

They all say that to adults because almost all adults want to believe such a statement and actually fall for it. Take note if you are a father of a teenage daughter telling you this.

EVERY, well almost every, girl I went to school with was telling their parents and peers that they wanted to wait until they were married and how it was so much more romantic if they were in love and getting married before that act was played.

Never happened. Most girls I knew never made it out of high school before they broke that promise.

Usually it was peer pressure from friends or the guys saying they couldn't love someone who wouldn't go all the way with them. That's a lot of pressure.

Just a warning.

Oh, and getting girls into sports like soccer and softball will extend their first time by a few years.

I think you did good letting him take it. I will never forget my prom. My mom let me take her 87 Corvette. We had a blast! I was a nervous wreck with it, though.

DB....Not likely they broke that promise with you ....where did all of this crap come from???????? Last time I checked, we were all teenage boys at one time. We have a pretty good idea what's up.
I have a 15 year old. Whoever trys to take her on a date better have room in the car for me too.
That's cool letting the boy take the car. That's how the next generation of Vette lovers get started.
