Default HELP 1977 Interior question- Please Read

I have a 1977 project vette. I pretty much know my vettes and this one puzzles me. I have torn the car down to re-do. The dash, doors and the locking mechanisms, speedometer, tachometer, and the wiring harness is a 1978 or newer. There are no signs of anyone ever changing it to make it a newer interior. Everything would have had to be changed out. Has anyone ever seen anything like it? I don't understand why anyone would have gone through the trouble. I am the third owner, and it wasn't wrecked. Thanks in advance for your help and input.

Was it a late built car? I know that some late 1976 Vettes were fitted with 1977 dome lights and dimmer steering columns and leather steering wheels as part of a end of year pull-ahead program. I have not heard of a 1977-78 pull-ahead. But it is possible.

Where were you 30 years ago?

That's a long time and lots has happened.

I have a very early 77, under #2000 and it has nothing from a 78.

Several possible answers, stolen, gutted and recovered, won't show on records back then.

All the stuff you mentioned is just bolt on, so anyone could change it, and if someone good did it properly, I doubt very few people could tell. There were a lot of rebuilds back then with no records.
I'm sure GM production line would even have access to 78 style parts when an early 77 was built.

Does the harness for the alarm match the fender switch or the door switch?

Well lets see I was 9 yrs old 30yrs ago lol. Anyway the alarm matches the fender, it was not stole that I know of. I am the third owner of this car and have all records and paperwork on it, with a clear title. I am just really puzzled because everything looks so perfect and dont understand why somebody would have put that much time into something like that.

Someone changed it out. Maybe there was some damage or maybe he got started changing some & found out there is little that is compatible in the 68-77 dash & 78- due to the redesign in 78.

It was common during the time for some to make changes to the outside to look like the newer ones. He made a mistake to change out the dash to the smaller speedo etc.
