Default Finally!!!

I joined this group as I was contemplating purchasing a 76 Stingray. After much haggling and scraping together of meager funds, I finally made the move. I'm now the proud owner (and I do mean proud) 1976 Corvette Stingray!!! I'm so thrilled. I came right home and washed and waxed it. I look forward to much advice and inspiration from this group. My first question is concerning the power windows. Neither window will work, and I can't seem to find a fuse that would be the problem. I do see a circuit breaker and was wondering if that could be the problem.

Check your owners manual to see if there is a fuse. Also, I have a
'75 so it shouldn't be much different, under the console the power
window relay - that could be bad. Do get an AIM - Assembly Instruction Manual - as it will show you with B & W diagrams and
part numbers where things go.

Very cool. I'm not very mechanically inclined, but definitely willing to try. Is there any place online to get a diagram of the vacuum system for the headlights?

Any of the on-line Corvette supply places can sell you a vacuum diagnostic manual (which has diagrams). You need a vacuum gauge to help find leaks, if you don't already have one; it's great for helping you diagnose engine problems and set idle correctly, also. The only things you can't do on your Corvette are the things you don't have the correct equipment and skills to do [ie, painting, engine changes, etc.]. That being said, you can always learn new skills and buy new tools!

Welcome and Congratulations
The '76 does use a breaker and a relay for the power windows. The breaker should be in the top left of the fuse panel. A fuse should work but will blow if you hold the window switch after the window gets to it's stop. But if you don't have a relay you should be able to use a fuse for testing. The relay is, as mentioned, under the console, pretty much directly under the front of the radio. Both parts are still readily available.

You guys are a big help. I got the windows and gauges working, and now I plan on moving to the headlights on my next day off.

Thank you all. After replacing some fuses, the gauges, warning lights, and windows all work now. The headlights are on the agenda for Friday. I love driving that car. Corvettes inspire excitement (not to mention the looks I get in it).

You can also learn alot by looking at vendor catalogs - I suggest you
get a Dr Rebuild cat (About $4.00) as you can learn alot from the pics,
parts diagrams. That said, unless you are going original, you can get
a lot of parts - starters, alternator, water pump, relays, etc - from
local parts stores - Pep Boys, etc. Good Luck with your project!!!
