Default 1980 dooor locks

Neither of my doors will lock anymore. Started with the passenger door a few months ago, when the door would not lock. Now even the drivers door fails to lock properly, must use a key. Is it the switches or is there a master controller somewhere? Thanks in advance,Mike

You're probably going to have to pull your door panels off and see if you can adjust the linkage rods to get them to work again.

You may have worn contact points or even bent rods so check everything out thoroughly.

It's not a bad idea to replace the mechanisms when they are that old, especially in these cars. I went that rout and am very happy I did so.

If the locks operate but don't lock correctly its a mechanical issue and your going to have to do surgery on the latch mechanisms. They will need to be cleaned and lubed and then adjusted to work correctly again. If they don't do anything with the button it may well be electrical.
So, what ya got?

You should look at this soon. A lot of us have ignored this problem only find we can't unlock the doors anymore, even with the key.

Once the door panels are off, as mentioned, check the mechanical portions of the locking system. If they function, check the grounds on the passenger switch. The key to the electric system is that both switches must be fully functioning and in place for system to operate.

If you are referring to the power locks. Keep in mind the switches are in series. If one is gone neither will work.
