I'm going to go through my interior and freshen it up (1971, vinyl black interior). i'd like to paint the parking brake console, the bezel where the wiper switch is and bezel where the AC vents would go (my car is non-ac so it says "corvette" there). what would be the appropriate paint to use? i have krylon semi-flat black that i used for the center console and it came out nice. i was thinking of using that. thoughts?
The semi-flat is good for metal parts. But, may I suggest you get a
can of black interior dye (Any parts Store) to do the console, even the
carpets and almost anything else interior. It can really spruce up the
interior -just make sure the parts are very clean before you paint.
That will work, Ecklers, Mid-America, et al, have the correct interior paint for the car. Be sure you use a product like Bulldog to pre-treat the pastic or vinyl parts, it really prepares the surface for the paint!

i just put in an order with one of these vendors and didn't order any dye...so instead of placing another order and having to wait/pay shipping again i was thinking of just going to the local auto parts store to pick some up. Where my interior is black does it matter if i use the ecklers/mid-america dye or is the local autozone stuff good enough? Black is black, right? Different color i can see why you'd probably only want to get from a Corvette place.
black is not ness black as you said. satin, semi gloss, egg shell, flat and gloss. not to mention blueish black, brownish black and black black. the last three all look black apart from one another. put them next to one another and they are still black but different shades of black. so it depends on how picky you are about it being like factory. i am not so i would use the semi gloss and not worry about it.
I used an X-acto blade to slice/ scrape the still soft paint off the raised chrome letters and trim accents. You get pretty good at it after 2 or 3 tries and can have really good results. I used Krylon semi-gloss which looked like the original level of gloss to me.
