Default Winter storage ideas

I'm planning to put my '68 into hibernation for the winter - about 3-4 months. Plan to change the oil, fill the gas tank, add Stabil and connect a battery trickle charger. Any other suggestion???

Put a little more air in the tires...over inflate a little to prevent flat spots...unless you are using jack stands like I do.

Here is a simple trick even though for only 3-4 months you may not really need it.

I tape the exhaust pipe and the carburator inlets shut. On a V8 engine, there is always one cylinder where both the intake and exhaust valves are both open. This allows an exchange of air back and forth through that cylinder - drying it out over time.

I also purchased a Car Jacket about 10 years ago. It zips completely shut and comes with several pounds of descecant. The car comes out of the bag in the spring just as clean and rust free as the day it went into storage.

Why chg the oil before you put her away. Won't it be better to chg it the day she comes out in the spring? I know its only 3 months but I always thought would be be better to completely fill the engine w/oil for the long term 1 year or more while off road? Like cars on display in a museum.

I have always changed the oil, polished and use a battery tender. But I always find a day or 2 where the roads are clean and dry during the winters here in Mass and take the cars for a little exercise. Good for the car and good for me. I've been doing this for 36 years with no ill effects. Some winters we don't get much snow at all. Others can be brutal.

It is recommended to change the oil because used oil contains acids and contaminates that it picks up when flowing thru the engine. Letting it sit in the engine is not as good as letting nice clean oil sit in it. The oil will not deteriorate in the engine if it is not run so when you start it up in spring it is still as fresh as the day you put it in.
