I have a 68 brake light switch that is on "Life support". I want to keep the origional style switch. Anyone have information on purchasing a new or rebuilt unit?
68 vetteman,
Please let me know if you find one as I have a 68 coupe and mine works but I have heard they are hard to find and would like to know who has them so I can get a spare for if and when mine fails.
Thank you,
Kurt
PM or e-mail me if you find a source

Better yet post that info right here for all us 68 owners.
I've got a non-working spare I plan to take apart to see what it would take to rebuild it.
They are not reproduced to my knowledge. They can be "converted" to a modern switch with either fabbed brackets or OEM brackets. The OEM brackets will require that you drill holes in your pedal assembly bracket. This will require removal of the pedal assembly

I know what you mean by removing the pedal assembly bracket. I had it out last winter to install a Flaming River Tilt steering column. Lots of curse words later it looks and works great. If I had only known then what I know now!!!!!!!!!!!

I took my OEM switch apart and did a "quick" rebuild to get the car back on the road. If I can't get a replacement I'll do a better job soon.

If this switch were to be going bad, would symptoms be that the brake lights stay on even if the car is turned off? My '74 does this occasionaly. I just get back in and press the brake pedal once and the lights go out. Thoughts?

Mine just went out..no warning..but if the plunger sticks,it could cause brake lights to stay on...
Thanks. I'll add it to the list of things to check. Kinda odd, because it will do it for about three to five days, then just act right for weeks at a time.

That link doesn't work, can you try again. I'd like to check it out.
Hi
I rebuild mine 3 years ago my self, inside the switch thelittle copper piece burned and I made a new one like the original and it's still working.
In the past I saw on ebay new one for $300.

I just got mine in yesterday from Corvette Central and trying to install it now. Do you have a picture of the one that is installed in your car, I need a reference to mount mine. Thanks,
