Looking for a little help folks. I have a squeek while driving, It is a squeek -- squeek -- squeek, as when the wheels are turning. Only noticeable around 20 to 45 mph. The more brake I apply, the quieter the squeek gets, remove foot off the pedal and it returns.
A little background; this is a 79 with 18,000 miles, has been on jacks for 15 years. To prep for the road, (among other things), front rotors were turned down, rear rotors were wire wheeled in place and look good, all new calipers with ss guts at all 4 corners, front wheel bearings packed, rears were not touched. When front wheel bearings where disassembled, the grease and general condition was very good, thus I did not go through the chore of repacking the rear bearings.

Sounds like brake material vibrating on the calipers...take them apart clean them...Inspect to make sure they have a good amount of material on them...then make sure you put them back together with Kleen Flo EZ slide or other suitable vibration dampener....hope this works if not then it may be a wheel bearing...I think it's brakes.

Any suggestions?
Believe it or not I had a similar squeak and couldnt pinpoint it at firest even with the help of a friend in the passengers seat. Turned out to be the speedo cable. .....lt

my 79 has the same squeak coming from the speedo cable. Sounded like the rear right brake I cleaned the brake pads, rotor and still squeak. Then I disconnected the speedo from the trans and no squeak.
Winter project is now to replace cable.

I replaced mine in about 1/2 hour by myself and Im not much of a mechanic........LT
I'd place my bet on the rear brake caliper. Mine has a similar squeek that goes away when I touch the brake pedal. Put the back of your car on jackstands with the wheels off and run it, and look at the calipers and see if you can find the sound. I'd bet your runout on the rear rotors is off.

I agree, I had a similiar noise. The warped rotor (excess run-out) was moving the brake pads back and forth on the pins, making the squeak.
