Hi. I'm going to get some manuals for my 71. I notise that the GM shop manual listed on this site isn't corvette specific. It covers some other cars too. Does anyone have it? Is it any good? Because I also saw they have motors and chiltons books, but I thought since its a copy of the GM manual, it may be good. Any thoughts?
Back in those days, all they had was the shop manual for the entire line. My '73 manual covers all models but it is great, goes into detail on the Vette specific parts. In '73 they also had an overhaul manual that detailed overhaul of the trans, engine, etc. With those and the Assembly Instruction Manual (AIM) I have all I need. '71 should be close to the same in terms of manuals.

My 70 Chassis repair manual also covers other cars with lots of Vette specific details.
I would get it.
Go and buy it now! That shop manual was the BEST thing I've ever bought for my '71 vette! .. You couldnt imagine how many things I was able to fix/replace/adjust/tune using this book!

Yes, I remember the motors manuels at my fathers shop back in the days covered the whole line, actually ,I think I still have one from 75'. Thanks for the responses guys. Joe
I bought an Adobe download on Ebay for $5.00, its the complete 1953 thru 1982 Corvette parts and illustration catalog. Published by GM in 1982 so a lot of the part nos are obsolete but it has some great reference material and blowups of about every section of the vettes covered. It only has the vettes in my version. It cost me 2 reams of paper to print it but it really helps.

Useful, but not a substitute for the shop manual.
I have the same thing on microfiche.
BTW, you lost $5. There's a link in the archives where you can download that manual for free.
yep, same thing I paid 5 bucks for, except mine was published in 82 for the 69-82 models only, this one was published in 83 and fits all the prior years. Again, knew I should have checked with you guys sooner. But ebay is so much fun.....
The parts manual is a great source for part location and part numbers but remember many of the part numbers have been superseded to later numbers. Also the part numbers on some cast items are a replacement part number and may not be the actual part number i.e. intake manifolds, heads, blocks, etc. that was originally installed during assembly.
If you have or can find a professional version of Acrobat you can import the 6 files together so the parts book is now one file. There are 1879 total pages in all and navigating through all of that may be confusing. I like the way GM does there method of grouping compared to the way Ford does there’s at least for there 60’s method.
If anyone has not experienced the grouping method by GM or are having problems finding what there looking for I have a good method to help you navigate the system and learn how to use the GM grouping method.
Let me know,
Brian
