I am so sorry, that happened, but as earlier stated. The both of you are fine. I had a boat do the same thing. I couldn't stand the smell of burnt plastic. Everytime I smell that smell. I get sick to my stomach. I hope your insurance company takes care of you.
So far, the insurance company has been rather punctual.
This happened Sunday evening and my local agent declared it a total loss Monday morning. Today, the Total Loss department called me before lunch and let me know they were going to pay $11K for the car.
After short discussion they agreed to re-evaluate as they had no information of the previous condition of the Vette or the mileage and agreed to consider all expenses toward the previous condition. So I faxed them 34 pages of receipts.
Those pictures are real bad. At least noone was hurt. I know that does not help but the car is replaceable. Just keep on the ins. company. Obviously it is worth way more than 11K.
Feel terribly sorry for you.
reminds me that i have to get my car taxed by the insurance company (norwegian amcar club) To dont get any trouble in the future.
I'm just now seeing this thread. Man I'm sorry. It's obvious that you have put many hours into the car; I can't even imagine how you feel right now. Good for you -- saving your receipts!!! When I first bought my car, I asked the insurance co. about the value of the car after I've spent $$$$ (I started to say invested, but caught myself) and they said save your receipts. Hope they take care of you. Glad you and your son are okay . . . that's scarey!!!
The insurance and I agreed to settle today. I know some may be curious about this as after market material is involved.
After re-evaluating, they will give me $15,500 for the car as it is. This increase is based on the aftermarket parts installed at the time of the accident. This is much lower than what I would like to see out of the insurance company as the amount spent is greatly higher but they indicate all of the parts are "used" parts and they cannot match $$$$ for $$$$. With this in mind.... I was under the impression from the beginning that I had only $10,000 worth of coverage when I purchased the insurance, thus justifying the attractive premium of $45.00 every 6 months.
Sad to see any classic go up in flames, or get wrecked.
Best you can do is build a bigger and badder replacement....
You've heard of the 6 Million Dollar Man??? "we can rebuild him(her). We can make him better, faster, stronger...." da da da daaaa da da da....
I say Rebuild...I also send my condolences.. as someone who recwently broke his Vet...Any thing I can spare is yours...I have a spare hood (the one piece on the front of my car that DIDN'T get damaged!) it's your if you need it..
