sorry for such an amateur question, but we all start somewhere - so I was changing the head lamps on ...first one went well...4 screws, off comes the molding/cover, 3 screws and off comes trim ring (btw, what material is this? - polished stainless? - chrome?), change bulbs...all good.
Next headlamp, get 3 screws off of the molding/cover, 4th screw is a flathead and not stainless, so guessing not original...first turn and the head shreds...so, still too wide to pull the cover off, but no more purchase...what is next?...I assume I need to drill it? - what size bit? - what material for the bit? - or is there another way at this? - many thanks!!! - ed
Just a sharp drill bit will do. Get one roughly the same size as the screw head and drill carefully just enough to get the bezel off. Then drill the rest out with a bit the same diameter as the screw.
thanks RRV! - by any chance, does someone know what screw that is (as in size?) - this is one of the ones that is above the lamp (not one of the side ones) - thanks!! - ed
For get the drill bit Do you have A dremmell? put the little cut -off blade in and just cut the bolts head off then visc-grip it. the drill bit will run all over and just scratch up the chrome rim.
good idea - problem is that it is a countersunk screw and I can't access the rest of the head - i suppose i could use the dremel with some kind of attachment to grind it out instead of drilling out...would that be better than drilling?? - thanks, ed
I had that happen with one of mine,I took the cup out that is held with the adj. screws and the spring and turned the screw from the backside with a vice grip.
