Hi, I've got a prob. with my headlight dr. They don,t go up to good. One not at al unless you help it. I found a bunch of vac leaks at connections, so I clamped or tie rappewd them. The actuater relays I think you call them at the front by the hood are hissing. I think that would mean there shot, right? Are they repairable. I bypassed it for the dr. that didn,t open at all, big improvement, but still didn't open all the way. Any advise? Allso, I saw a book recently on the vac system, repasiring them, butforgot where I saw them. Anyone know where to get one?

I'm not going to jump in here because I barely know what I'm doing on this subject. Some folks will help you. You should list the year of your car here so the experts can give accurate information.
Many of the vendors offer trouble shooting guides and vacuum hose diagrams. Dr. Rebuild has good, accurate ones. There are also lots of information in past posts on this site. You really need the guides to understand how the systems are supposed to work and how to repair yours. It gets expensive quickly if you just start replacing parts.

I forgot. Its a 71. Thanks, I'll check out dr. rebuild. Yea, those actuators are 60.00 sa. I think I need three, and probably other parts too. I guess its not a bad price to pay to have such a cool car.
Try something with the car on. The hose that goes into the bottom of the actuator on each side should have a green stripe through it. Next to it, there is a doglip seal around a metal bar. Try pushing the seal up into the light and seeing if the light goes up. These are known for going bad. I've dealt with a variety of vacuum issues on mine, but it's pretty cool the first time you get everything working. I'm sure some of us can walk you through this.
Thank you so much for the offer sixfter, but I'm actually up in Eustis Fl. now, though I still do work down there a lot. I guess I'd better change my profile.
Don't buy any actuators until you have checked out the rubber vacumn lines and the plug and nipple on them, my system didn't work when I bought my '72 and all I ended up replacing was the plug and nipple on the wiper actuator.
