Default 1972 Saddle Interior question

Does the saddle color on a '72 match the saddle on all C3s?

Depends on which saddle interior you have. Light or Dark. I have the dark saddle interior on my '72. The light saddle is drastically different. I have compared it to other dark saddle years and it is close.

Good luck,
Dino

I have seen many variances between these colors. Some subtle, some not.Age, condition, and manufacturer of parts contribute to this

Are there dark and light saddles offered in all C3s? Is there an example somewhere that shows the difference between the 2? Per the black book, it just lists saddle as an option, not a light and dark.

There are light, medium and dark saddle colors offered for various years. My trim code lists the interior as "Saddle". I originally thought it was a light saddle color and ordered a part from Willcox Corvette. When the part came in, it was not right. They were kind enough to exchange it for dark saddle and it matched very well.

Good luck,
Dino

So it's just a crap shoot as to what you got from the factory?

Dark and light saddle are VERY different, not as dramatic as chocolate and vanilla, but close (metaphorically speaking of course!) I first thought I had Saddle or Light Saddle in my 72, but its definitely Dark Saddle....

I know exactly what you mean. I had the same problem. Saddle is a bit vague.

His is Dark Saddle. Lighting affects how it looks. Buy all your parts from one supplier at the same time if possible. Shades vary drastically from manufacturer to manufacturer, age, sunlight exposure, ect. all affect the shade. Even different materials like the vinal on the seats compared to the E Brake console age and change shades at different rates. My 72 was Dark Saddle but reproduction parts were obvious.

From the cars I have seen early bumper cars had a light saddle and later years had a med.and dark saddle. I think their were three shades.

Here is my medium saddle. Someone replaced the top dash pad with a dark saddle piece.

Jeff,
That is 1973 code 416 med saddle. You have the correct factory upper dash. In 1973 the upper dash was dark saddle with code 416, medium saddle. Go figure.
I have an original 73 convertible with the code 416 med saddle interior. My original dash is like yours--dark saddle.

You are 100% correct. I put a med. saddle dash in my metalic yellow 73 and replaced a dark saddle. Later I found out that dash was not a buba job.

This 70 looks much lighter than a 73 med saddle.

Thanks for the info. The map pocket had been replaced so I assumed that the upper pad had also. I like the look so did not replace it when I fixed up the interior last winter.
