I have a vintage Strombecker 1/32 track that I am trying to get together before Christmas. Like to see if any Corvette Forum people are into this hobby.

Love it...I have an Artin 1/32 set that I expanded to include many over/unders and banks. Gotta be over 200 linear feet. My favorite car (apart from the Carerra 1964 James Bond Aston Martin) is the killer C2 Grand Sport from Revell/Monogram. Great stuff

I bought a Scaletric (sp?) last year for my son and myself. It came with a '69 Boss 302 and a Penske '69 Camaro. I added a '64 Vette and my son added a tuner (ricer) to the mix. Lots of fun. Takes me back to my youth.

I've got a 4-lane HO track encircled by a Carrera Pro-X 1/32 high bank oval. Don't know the linear feet, but the table is 4' x 13'. Since these pics, I've added a pit road and lap counter to the 1/32 track, and a catch fence around everything. Please excuse the crappy photo quality.

Man...in the 60's there was a slot car track on every street corner in Chicago. And I was in them!!! Loved it. $.50 for fifteen minutes. Even had a "to scale" 1/4 mile drag strip.
Have a big one at a local Mall now. Can't believe how FAST the cars have gotten.

I had that exact same set as a kid. I looked all over for one a few years back and gave up. I ended up building a track but had to toss it when we moved. I would love to see pics of that track!!! My brother and I spent hours racing... my mustang against his camaro...

Wow!....that brings back memories....I had a Strombecker 1/32 track back around 6th or 7th grade (in the mid 1960's). One of the cars was a '63 Split Window Corvette! Used to have slot car racing tracks in this area, but now are long gone.......had fun running 50,000+ rpm.

I'm not really into slot cars but I do have an old tyco setup with 2 C3s (they're called cobra and hawk, it says racin' wheelies on the box)

Back in the 90's my friends and I would go to a local track all the time, I loved it and still have my tool box full of parts and cars. Although now there is no longer any tracks in the area. I would love to take my son but doesnt look like thats going to happen.

Sets aren't that pricey assuming you have the room. This site is full of great stuff and has great customer service. Check out the 1/32 scale Monogram cars and scroll down to the Greenwoods and GrandSports. Just awesome models and super on the track.

My Dad got me involved in them when I was way younger. It's one of those memories that you never forget. I have tried to find a local 1/24 scale track, but there's not one. There are plans all over the internet to build a 1/24th scale track, and you can usually buy one on Ebay (http://cgi.ebay.com/Gerding-King-Slot-Car-Track-155-foot) There used to be a 155 foot track in Plano, TX where I grew up. I raced on it last about 8-9 years ago. We were using group 7 or 27 (can't remember) wing cars that would do a lap of the 155 foot track in less than three seconds! I wish there was more interest in the hobby - I would be racing now if I could. I still have all my old stuff - I could go plug into a track today and start racing again. I have built about a dozen hard body super-16d motivated dragsters out of models with a DRS chassis (or homebuilt) that easily sell for $150 or more on Ebay.

I had an old set when I was younger, but soon grew out of it for R/C racing. I did it semi-professionally for a few years. I raced 1/10th scale and I had spent tons and tons of cash on it. It was a blast, but would rather spend my money on full scale versions!

Anyway, those tracks look like a blast!

I got started when I was 12 years old (1965). My dad bought me a Cheetah kit and there were 2 local tracks he took me to every week. Within a couple months the Cheetah wasn't very much fun anymore and dad started building piano wire chassis and winding armatures. We even made our own silicone tires. He built the cars and I drove them. Trophy races on Sunday and Thursday nights and we did very well. I still have all the old cars and some home made clear bodies including one molded by Larry Shinoda. (I'll post a photo later if this thread is still active). He and his daughter used to race every week. Quite a few big 3 engineers got into this back then with their kids, lots of different talents.
Got back into it in the early 90's building chassis and motors myself and was consistant 1st and 2nd every week but the track went out of business. Pretty expensive and a lot of time involved prepping the car each week to remain competitive.

As said, I would rather spend the time and money on real cars.
