I don't try to, but I don't especially aviod it either. Wipers work fine - just don't let the clutch out too fast...

That just made me think of a story...
The wife and I are toying with buying another vette. We had so much fun looking for the last one we are still looking at cars. So we go by this used car lot and he had a couple of corvettes sitting there and I said "do you want to stop and see what he's got?" and she says "no, you don't want to look at those cars." and I said "why not?" she says "because they have sat out in the rain". Is it any wonder I love this woman...

I'll drive the '88 in the rain, but I'd have to get surprised to end up in the rain in the '71.

Like Saturday evening at Carlisle this past summer.

The wipers work fine and there are no leaks, but I worry about everybody else. I worry somebody will hit me, so no rain driving.

Three rain stories.

1. Years ago, I went to Arkansas to visit my sister while out on sick leave. On the way home, I took off top down because I didn't get to on the way there. About an hour after leaving, it began to rain. I ran about 100 miles in the rain with the top down until I stopped for gas. It was great, and I had a great time. Nothing got wet.

2. I was headed up to see the last shuttle before Challenger (didn't know that then.) I opened the garage door and it was pouring. The water pump on the van was out, so I had the choice of driving the '68 or not going. After cringing about 15 minutes since I had just washed and waxed yesterday, I decided I really wanted to see the early morning launch. I blasted along about 75 miles of rain, and got up just in time to watch an incredible launch in dark sky as the sun was just coming up. I'll remember it always. I then ran around Cocoa and drove A1A along the beach back home. If I hadn't driven it in the rain, I would have missed all of that, including this picture.

3. A buddy and I drove his '72 to Nashville for the 50th Anniversary. Just past Owensboro, KY, it began to rain on us. We drove along for several miles since there was no place to stop under cover and just let the rain blow over us, until we got to a toll booth under a highway. Unfortunately, his top had dried out and had split down the middle. So even when we put the top up, it still poured in on us. We borrowed some garbage bags, used some duct tape, and did a real bubba repair, which still leaked like crazy.

We had a great weekend, and will remember that forever, too.

The best and strongest memories usually come from some adversity; don't hide from rain as it may turn into one of your best memories.

Nope, my '81 baby dosen't get driven in the rain, that's why I own 3 other cars . It rare you even see a vette out this time of year here in Ohio unless it's sunny and dry out . Mine is about ready to take that long winters nap and dream of warm dry, sunny days.

If I know the weather is going to bad I leave the vette in the garage. That being said, If it's a nice morning and I'm going to be out all day and the weather is nice I'll drive the vette and take my chances. If I get caught in a rain storm I have a towel in the back because the tops do leak a little but nothing I can't clean the next day.

OK well I didnt drive my car. But we had 25 cars 22 corvettes and 3 GTO's.....was a blast.. I was the leader of the pack about 90% of the cruise.. We were in cattle country so I stayed out front just in case.
Here are a few pics. We had a BBQ and a Dyno day at a local shop..Top car was 593HP. 07z06

Got caught in the rain on the way to Woodward Avenue Dream Cruise in the 63. Just as it started I pulled under an overpass way off to the side. It rained hard for 15 minutes then the sun came out. Sat there for about an hour and dry roads. Saved a day of cleaning. I never, ever drive in the rain. I spent 3 years doing a total NCRS type restoration on my 72. It looked factory brand new underneath right down to the stickers on the springs and production line markings. Sold it in 2005. The first day the new owner drove it to work it poured. I went to his house to drop off some paperwork I found and the whole underside was trashed. Felt like screaming!!! It will never clean up like it was. Depends on the car and how much of yourself you got in it..

I've only been out in the rain once on purpose, but as a rule cloudy skies means the DD gets driven. Of course the car always seems to get wet going to or from or even at Carlilse. My underhood is detailed but the undercarriage is not, yet, so if I get caught it's not a huge deal. I plan to do the undercarriage this winter.

I got cought in the rain a couple of time specialy comming back from a show and shine. I remember one day i got cought in a storm and didn't have the t-top on board so i had to keep on driving until i could stop somewere. I did loose control and went side-ways for a good 50 feets, i though that was it. After that, If there a chance that it rain it stays in the garage.

I can see leaving it parked in the snow/salt or if you're pure NCRS (or whatever), but damn - I got mine so I could drive it, and that's what I do. All the stuff I wear out can be replaced and the stuff I get dirty can be washed. Hell, keeping up with the old bastaard is half the fun for me.

To each his own, I suppose, but I drive both of my old rides often.
