I'm changing to a divorced choke and I want to know if it is necessary to open the exhaust bypass in the intake manifold to make the choke work properly? And if so what's the downside - more heat under the carb?
I am in the process of switching back to a Q-jet from a Holley. I read in an old magazine article that the way a well tuned Quadrajet meters fuel is as close to electronic fuel injection as you can get without spending the money.

I put an Edelbrock Performer intake on my'69 sbc with the exhaust crossover ports blocked and found that the divorced choke on my quadrajet took a very long time to pull off. I converted it to an electric choke pull off.

Where did you find a electric choke conversion for a divorced choke. I've been looking for one. And where did you get power from?

thanks
I found the electric choke conversion at http://www.carburetion.com/quadrajet.asp
scroll to the bottom of the page for Divorce Choke Conversions.
This unit works good, however since it is designed for the original cast manifold, I had to modify the mount to fit the Edelbrock Performer.
For the power I ran a wire from the IGN terminal on the fuse block.

it does take longer, as far as heat goes, make sure you get the q jet metal heat shield and you will be fine
