PITA (me) needs a '68 vert pic...Please
Guys, I know I've asked a lot for pics from vert owners. I just need a pic or two from a '68 vert. Here's an example of a newer vert:
I need a pic of this area pre-alignment pin, when the wedges were used. Everything on my conversion is '68, I know the soft top/weatherstrip seals in this area. I'm trying to determine if I can fabricate this, or if I'm time and money ahead to buy the upper halves of the rear door jambs and 'glass them in.
Thanks in advance for any pic help!
John

John,
I'll have to take another look at what's left of my parts car, but I don't remember seeing anything like that on it. Maybe something they added to the 69 up?
I'll let you know what I find and be watching this thread.

Thanks, Rick. I'd appreciate you looking. The little 'shelf' area with the small piece of weatherstrip with the two screws is what I'm wondering about. I've seen those seals with the two screws for sale on e-bay and elsewhere, they're always listed for '69 and up. I'm wondering just what a '68 has there.
Of course, mine just ends at the rain gutter and doesn't have any of that shelf area that the weatherstrip is screwed down onto.
Thanks!

So a '68 does have that shelf area with some sort of seal mounted there. Just looking at pics of the body lock pillar weatherstrips, there doesn't appear to be a lot of difference. Looks like some sort of plastic wedges were used on the later ones. It appears to break '68-early '69, then late '69 to '75. All the soft top weatherstrip kits are '68-'75.
I dunno, might just have to wing it.

The shelf area for a 68 is exactly as you have pictured, however there are no pins or receivers on a 68. The decklid on a 68 is different than later and uses wedges instead of pins for decklid alignment. The door also use wedges instead of pins on a convertible.

Pic is not of a '68 corvette. The '68 has push button door lock release with the key slot in the pushbutton (one of the many one year only features) that make the '68 unique from other C3s. The pic shows a'69 or later with the door lock flush with the door.

My early 68 does not have that metal thing with the white bushing in it. That is a later piece?

These pics are off a '70-'75 I think.
Early C-3s also had wedges for the doors instead of the door pins and door jamb receivers the later ones had.
I was wanting to see what a '68 set-up looked like. I've seen pics of the later verts, but not the early.

Here's a link to an old thread that makes for interesting reading on the doors:

Heres a pic of my very early 68, no pins or alignement holes. Sorry for the lousy pic but its dark and freezing out there.
