now this 72 is SPECIAL
this really cracks me up:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1972-...QQcmdZViewItem
wrong color and side vents are for 73 and up but the seller states differently...
as a matter of fact he says, "There were some very late 72's that did not come with the honeycomb vents from the factory. They were omitted from the factory. This one is a "1972" with "NO EGGCRATES", hope that clears this one up once and for all"
but this 1972 corvette, #20856, was made on May 10th, 1972. Number 20854 made the same day has egg crates as does number 21386 made on May 16th, 1972 and number 26902 made on July 20, 1972. So this guy just doesn't have a clue what he is talking about.
The above serial numbers used for example and comparisons are from the C3 registry... and yes I referenced the ones with pictures!
I know that I have heard of people molding in this type of side vent but it is not factory....

I like the part when he states "You don't see a lot of these with the removable rear window and t-tops"...
Didn't they all come like that unless it was a vert?

All 72s came with the egg crate side gills. He is full of BS. Another weekend wonder who knows it all. he is misrepresenting this car. Not a bad car but he needs to get his facts straight. There was no Egg Crate delete option.

well i guess I made him mad...
lol... so here is his response...
Boy some people just have to much time on their hands....Show me where I stated that 73 vents came on a 72. I stated some 72's came without eggcrate which they did....LATE IN 72...This particular vehicle had the eggcrates removed, I have never stated anywhere that it had 73 vents. All you Corvette police are stating that.... Had you had a true interest in the vehicle I would have disclosed that fact to you as I have many other that have expressed interest in purchasing. That instead of criticizing my "Corvette Intelligence",
would have sufficed...your input is not appreciated...
and I have responded with this...
Dear Sir,
In your reply to a previous question you stated this, " There were some very late 72's that did not come with the honeycomb vents from the factory. They were omitted from the factory. This one is a "1972" with "NO EGGCRATES", your direct quote. This is a false statement and no 1972 corvettes came with a " egg crate delete option" from the factory. Plus the Louvers (egg crates) have not simply been removed. If the vents were simply removed you would be able to see the carbon canister and vacuum box on the driver's side and the wiper door actuator on the passenger side along with the various hoses attached to it. The side vent has been completely changed from a 70-72 style to a 73 and up.... honestly I am not trying to be an ***... I am just trying to state the facts b/c someone who wants to be a ***** upon buying the vehicle could claim false advertising. As to where the vents were changed late in 1972... nope... didn't happen...out of 27,004 corvettes made that year the last one known to me is 26,977 and it has the egg crate grills... so just where did you get this info of " late 72 having 73 vents" ?
Sorry if I upset you as that was not my intent. I sent you a private email not a public post to your auction as some of the others have done.

wonder how he'll respond to that... plus I would so like to be a fly on the wall when the car gets inspected for barrett jackson...

Its funny how often when these kinds of questions get asked the lister then says he's listed it as a favor for someone else. In this case his nephew. No pictures or information about what you really need to know in order to consider buying an early C3.

Anybody got a pic of an "eggcrate"? My '74 is nowhere near a car for a purist but I'm curoius what one vs the other looks like. I am assuming I do not have them.
Thanks to anyone that can help me learn a little.

So in all seriousness, what the hell did happen to this car? The obvious part is 73+ didnt' come with chrome front bumper, but weren't their front ends a bit longer? The hood looks correct for a '72 at least, but a 72 hood won't fit on a 73+.
So which is it? Did someone do a little fiberglass work and cut in vents like a 73, or did someone modify the whole front end of a 73 and slap on a new hood?
Unfortunately, someone is going to be mislead into buying this car.
