Default Need Hood Liner info?

Does anyone know where or if you can get a hood liner like the the ones they offer for the C6 for '80 C3? It's about the only thing left that needs attention, and getting a good airbrush job done around here is virtually impossible. If you have any pics on this please post them.

I found a place a while back that would take a stock one and add the emblem to it. I will see if I can find it again, but the price was ridiculous.... I have been looking for the same.

Alternatively...what is the material the C6 hood liners are made of and is it commercially available?

I made my hood liner out of 1/8 masonite then covered the masonite with 1/8 foam. Over the foam I put black vinyl then had the emblem painted on. It is held in with velcro. I put a small pull tab in the bottom to remove. It is hard to see in the pic.

I can't even find a liner for '80 model they all seem to stop with the '79 model. This is a link to the one in the pic. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/17801...2em118Q2el1247

Evmcevil, Don't forget to check with your chevy dealer. I got mine for my 79 last year, they are still available. Possibly they can still get one for an 80.

The air cleaner is one of those triangle shaped from Edelbrock.

You're right. No hoodliner for the 80. Also, it appears to be unncessary. No adverse affect from engine heat on the interior hood or exterior paint. I also had the inside of my hood painted black, when the new exterior paint was applied last year. It looks clean and fantastic.

I don't think the '80 came with a liner either, I wasn't looking for one for the insulation, I was looking to dress up the under-side of the hood and didn't really want to search for someone who could do a good airbrush job.

I have been in touch with a guy in the thunderbird forum who makes liners out of aircraft bulkhead material. They look pretty nice. He dresses them with a decal but I imagine they would be paintable.
heres the url for the post.
http://forums.tccoa.com/showthread.php?t=105559

I also have a reply from the guy about doing some up for late model corvettes. See below:

Many thanks for your e-mail. I would be more than happy to help the Corvette guys out! I've seen the ones offered on eBay and they are way too over-priced. For that much they had better have some gold in them!

As you've probably read in the TCCOA forum (Thunderbirds and Cougars Club of America) my liners are made from aircraft/bulkhead material, which is far superior to any factory liner. A decal/emblem can be placed on it to further customize the underhood. Obviously this makes a car stand-out at a show.

I would need an original liner to work from or a template made from an original liner that could be sent to me. There really aren't any late model Corvettes in the junkyards near me to grab a liner from!

How can we proceed? The liners would go for $95, shipping is $10, and I'd have to get back with you on the crossed flags emblem. I need a large size jpeg to send to my decal guy and find out from him how much they are in the colors needed.

Thanks again!

as opposed to late model how about C3's? I'm sure we could arrange for a template to be sent to the guy

He maintains that he can do it for any car. All he needs is a template. I emailed and asked him about painting on the material and here is the reply. His contact info is at the bottom. MAybe someone from here who is closer to him than I am could make contact and explain exactly what we are looking for. I sent him the pic of Black Bat's C3 as a way of showing what we're after

Hi William,

Thanks for the picture - yes I can make those for you, not a problem.

As for airbrushing, it really depends if the paint would stand up to the heat under the hood. The material will accept the paint, but will the paint come undone due to the temps?

For installation it's easiest to install with the hood OFF the car. It's not stiff like an original liner, and MUST be installed with the 3M #80 spray adhesive AND the plastic tabs.

Have you seen my large images of the liners?
