I think that car is priced properly for what it is. I think it could be a decent car to start with if you want one that you can drive and update as you go. I hear a lot of neg on 73-82 values and they just are not that cheap any more. They are not that exspensive either.

That car does have a few issues that have already been covered and I don't think any of them are a show stopper. I also notice the screws are out on the right side of t he dash.

Go and Look at the car, drive it and feel the sustemsion and steering. take a good look at the paint. Ask how long he has had the car and if that is a short period ask why he is selling.

Well it was either 47K or 147K and between the two I would wager the latter.

Don't buy it. Too many "accessory" problems to deal with. Why wouldn't the owner fix those things when he wants to make the most money on the deal? Likely reasons: 1.) he doesn't know how to fix them or 2.) he doesn't want to fix them...just flip the car for a profit. It's likely that he buys-up non-running cars in rough condition, then cleans them up and sells them just passing the car's problems to the new owner.

If the motor has been replaced, so has the exhaust system. Original system utilized a "Y" pipe versus a true dual system. Then again, who wouldn't want a true dual system especially if this car isn't NOM.

Good advice. I wouldn't ever buy a car without driving it first.

Pictures can make a car look a lot better than it is.

My car looked about like that one and I paid $8,000. (100,000 miles)...

I've done about 250 hours of detailing to make it excellent "driver" quality. But it ain't gonna win any shows.

BTW... if it needs paint, you can count on 10-grand.

What are the chances of someone in Maryland knowing this car first hand?

Thanks,
Tom
I actually did see this car on Rt.3 in Maryland. It was for sale for most of the summer and did not sell (obviously). Don't read anything into that, just saying no one bought it. I drove by it everyday for work and finally stopped in one day to check it out. The interior is a bit rough. If memory serves me it was billed as not the original motor. Which IMHO. for that year would make NO difference to me. Body and paint looked great. (If you like yellow) I also wondered why so cheap. Don't think those fixes needed that he speaks of are not that big a deal. Not expensive if you can do your own work. I did not hear it run, but assuming the motor was good, I'd have no prob. paying a little less then asking. only because I never give asking for a car.Got to feel like I've gotten a deal I guess. Hope that helps at least a little.

Guys, I really appreciate all of your advice. I think I'd be taking too much of gamble buying it just from the pics and not be able to see it in person. I am going to sit on the sidelines on this one and keep looking for a '74-'79 closer to Savannah.

Thanks again for all of your input, I think you kept me from making an impulse buy mistake.

I bought my 68 vert at American Sportscar Center (new & used all corvette dealer) in Atlanta Georgia and rented a uhaul trailer to tow it home with my Trailblazer. I know I got screwed on the deal b/c there were a lot of bubba fixes that I would not have known unless i pulled the car apart. So I don't blame the vette dealership b/c they wouldn't have known any of the problems either unless they a.) did a frame off and tore the engine apart or b.) bubba told them himself.
But I know they made money on the deal and I paid much more then I should have.
I wasn't planning on doing a frame off and I bought the car only expecting to replace the rotors and pads but in doing so I realized most was original and in need of replacing and why not do it now if I was going to do it later on.
I know they had a lot of C3's.
Don't fall in love with the car, don't buy it the first time you see it. DO LOTS of research on the car, identify everything and negotiate everything. I made a list of 25 things that I needed to do to the 68 to make it road worthy and the owner of the company whipped out a catalog and deducted the list price of each repair item from the price of the car. And they ordered us pizza for lunch.
However it is their company policy that the car has to be acceptable on the road, meaning, must run, headlights must go up and down and on/off, wipers must work, all directional signals and taillights must work. Just as if it was going for an inspection.
Just be ready to haggle with the price and walk away if not happy.

Tom, I think it has a nice paint job, but the car almost certainly has 146,000 miles. Look at the wear on the passenger door trim, center console, drivers seat, and steering wheel. The condition of the engine bay is not consistant with the paint quality. The engine is a replacement GM crate motor (So what). The repaint is obvious by looking at the trim tag overspray. All said, I think it's an ok deal. $7500 for a nice looking driver. Whoever bought it will probably want to recover the seats and simply clean up the engine area. Big deal. That engine is no power house, but neither was the original. Somebody will get alot of enjoyment out of that car.

LOL. You saw how much wear some of my parts had at 85k (before I started really yanking stuff out). Heck, I'm already on engine #2.

My first impression is the paint looks good from a pic, but interior and engine bay look like the car sat outside for a good part of her life. I would be all over birdcage & kick panel area. The price is ok, but I think you could find one even nicer for the same price. Just keep looking

I was considering this car myself. The exterior is beautiful. But being a beginner the engine was the thing that scared me...looked like no one loved her. I am sure you can fix her up though, it is a beautiful car!!! Good luck
