Is this true?
Ok so my dad said he had an orange 1971 or 72 Lt1 with an aluminum block engine. He said it was scary fast and that he smoked a 454 and outran a cop with ease... plus he said it it fishtailed going into third a 60mph
Is this really true? (the vette had no mods)

Never heard of that one
Could be be mistaken? The ZR-1 option was basically a LT-1 with heavy duty Brakes , Suspension , Transmission and an Aluminum Radiator. Also had no fan shroud or radio.
Could he be mistaken the radiator for the block?
There was no reason for an aluminum small block in my openion.
The L88 , LS-6 heads and the ZL-1 complete motors were Aluminum in an effort to get a big block weight down close to a small block's weight.
The C3'a were meant to have a specific front to rear weight ration.
The big block's weight upset that ratio slightly and gave up some handeling.
But man will they trun tires into smoke?????

Don't know about the stories your dad told but the factory Lt1 blocks were not aluminum.

Having owned a '70 LT-1, I'd say no, but you had to be careful going into second.
