Default Hello, here I am

Hello C3 drivers,

I am a new member from Germany, owning a classic white Corvette built in 1971. Sorry for my language I had a bad stroke 6 years ago, so my writing is not so good. I'm living in Germany but my new bought Corvette was from a great dealer here in America. There is one problem with the licence here. There is nothing told with the power on the title. Here in Germany the C3 is licenced with 270HP stamoed on the Console Plate in the Car. My Corvette has a dark red Interior but new it was brown. Is it possible to get the really Power of the Corvette when I only know the VIN ? Is there any way to get the Horsepower when the C3 was new? Please help me

Andreas

That plate with the 270 HP is your car's stock HP rating from the factory.

270 Hp was the base 350 engine in 71. Nothing in the Vin will tell engine, displacement or HP in 71. Brown was not a paint option in 71 either. What does the trim tag on the drivers side door pillar say? Trim and paint codes can be translated to give the original paint color and interior color as well as determining whether it was deluxe interior (Leather) or standard (vinyl).

the following website can give you vin decode as well as trim tag decode info.

Look in original 1971 "owner's manual" ... 2'nd Ed Feb 1971 ... page 79 "engine specifications" ... four engine options.

270HP/360TQ is the standard aka base 350.
330HP/360TQ is the other 350.

there are two 454 listed:
365HP/465TQ & 425HP/475TQ

There are original & reproduction owner's manual available for relatively small $ ... look on ebay.

I keep two ... one in car ... & my true original on file. There's good info there; highly recommended.

Look at the suffix code on the engine block. If it is still there, or correct.

Skipper,
Welcome. You must be excited to have a Corvette in Germany. There is a chapter of the NCRS ( National Corvette Restorers Society) in the Netherlands. You should check them out. Their WebSite is even translated to German, I think.
Regards,
Alan

Welcome! And get that car out on the Autobahn before speed limits are mandated. I love seeing that sign light up above the hightway showing "no speed limit!"

Prost!

Default Hello, here I am

Thank you for your greetings. Tomorrow I will check the number on the engine. The pain code on the driver side says that it is the pain classic white the interior code says that it was original dark brown. My Corvette has the paint classic white today and the interior today is dark red. I surched for 6 months for this C3 in good condition and suitable price in the web. How I wrote I had a bad stroke 6 years ago so I must bought my Corvette by web. But this car is a good deal in mind condition. Please excause me for some mistakes when I' writing my american must be " tuned" up.
