Kind of figured we were headed in this direction.
Where did you buy the car from? Where are you now? How did you pay for the car? Need more information.
I bought my 71 from NY they don't have titles for cars over 15 years old.Took the old registration down to Trenton and they gave me a title for the car. It didn't take long at all and was easier than I thought,Just bring alot of ID. Good Luck
Hey everybody - 377 did something that most folks can't ever figure out how to do. That's change the spelling in the title of the thread!!
Anyway, most States have provisions for re-creating an original title after you prove you are the legal owner, and that the original title is un-recoverable somehow. Check with your county (or whatever) motor vehicle department. They usually have all this info online now.
Another good reason not to buy a car without a title.
The advice you need varies state to state. You really need someone in NJ or wherever the car was last registered to answer your question. I know in Tennessee you can get a title through an artisans (sp) lean sale. A towing company or similar with an abandoned car get a copy of the title from the state using the VIN. Then they runs ads and try to send registered mail to the last known owner and listed leinholders. Then after a time there is an auction sale and high bidder gets a stack of paperwork to take to the title place. They get a clean title back.
There are also places in Hemmings that can help track down titles. That avenue will not come cheap probably.
