Door Panel Carpet Dye
Anyone have any good results with door panel carpet dye. The previous owner of my 81 replaced the carpet but didn't do the door panel carpet. I tried camel colored vinyl / leather dye on a small section but it came out darker than the floor carpet. Any help would be appreciated.

Your best bet for a match is to contact the manufacturer of your present carpeting (assuming you have replaced it). They can send you whatever sized pieces you need to match at reasonable cost. Other than that, you could cut a piece of your carpeting [in a non-critical location, of course] and send it to a reputable Corvette carpet supplier for "best match" and buy from them.

dampen the carpet and keep it moist with spray foam carpet cleaner.
apply the dye to the carpet and work it in with a damp sponge. If it comes out darker than you want take the sponge and keep wiping/pulling the dye out of the carpet til you get the color you want.
keep rinsing the sponge out in a bucket of plain water so the dye you are pulling out doesnt transfer back to the carpet.
allow the carpet dry overnite.
it wont work to go from a darker color to a lighter color, only from lighter to darker.
the liquid dye is easier to use than the powder dye.
