I am looking for the length of the dipstick that fits a 350, TH400 automatic transmission. The previous owner of my '72 replaced the original dipstick with an aftermarket chrome stick and I'm not sure it is the correct length. Filling the tranny with fluid takes a little more than the tranny states is required. The one I have measures 24" from the tip to the inside bottom of the cap. Does this sound right.
See my post regarding my 74 THM -400 trans dipstick length. There was a reply there that might help you out.
Original tube # 340659 has been discontinued with NO supercedding number. #10017293 is a SERVICE Replacement number for the trans dipstick itself, that's still good.
I'm not sure what length it is, but it'll run you about $8.00 to find out.
Now if I could just find someone to measure their ORIGINAL 1974 THM-400 dipstick length, I'll have an answer to my question.
That assumes your tube lengths are the same. To be safe, you should measure the tube length (top of tube to place it enters the block) and take into account any length differences.
