this is a very elementary question and i am ashamed that i do not know the answer.... BUT this is the first year i've been driving in sub-zero temps for about 10 years.
i am rarely in temps this cold, but... ya never know around here and i wouldn't want to have a freeze up of wiper fluid in ANY of my cars, especially the vette.
i know that they make special "de-icer" fluid rated up to -30 degrees F. it's not much more $$$ than regular fluid, so i was thinking, should i/could i just use the winter fluid year round? it'd be a pain to have to ciphen and replace the fluid each season...
also, is there something i could add to my regular fluid (antifreeze? alcohol?) to make sub-zero rated? i only ask because the regular stuff is easier to find than the "winter" stuff....
If your car is used as a 'daily driver' and you need to clear the windshield regularly, buy the low-temp stuff and use all year round. Otherwise, leave the bag empty and don't cycle the pump.
Always buy the best you are willing to pay for. Remember wind chill, you are spraying a fluid on a windshield at 60 miles an hour. The cheap stuff leaves a icy film that takes 1 or possible 2 wipes to remove. Do you want to be blind for 2 or 3 seconds??? Living in Canada I have always used -40 fluid in my regular driver and even though I DO NOT drive the vet in the winter I use the same fluid in that car.
I use Rain X -40 in our cars, summer and winter. Now the Corvettes are empty, the new tanks have never seen fluid. But we don't drive them in the rain, or snow, so no need to fill then.
