Default Home Powder Coated Wheel Pics

Well after a couple of months of playing with the Craftsman Powder Coat gun on a BUNCH of small parts, I went after the old Enkei wheels that came with the Corvette. Steam cleaned, glass beaded, then semi-gloss black powder. Still have to polish the exposed aluminum ribs and add the stainless hardware, but I am am very pleased with the finish.

Very nice. Do you have a special oven for that?

I bought a yard-sale oven to put in the shop, just for powder coating. Can only bake one wheel at a time, but it works great.

tobyte1,
Since an oven takes a pretty serious electrical service, where do you plug it in? I'm trying to see what it would take for me to do what you're doing.
Regards,
Alan

Same Voltage as an electric dryer. Do you have one of these in your garage or is that just a California thing?

Or you could take it to Death Valley and just leave it out in the sun!

I just saw a powder coating lamp/lamps for those who don't want to go the oven route. I have a gun and powder, but I have never used them. Some friends who have done this in their garage say it makes a horrible smell that won't leave for a while.

BTW, Wheels look great.

When I built my shop, I opted to put in a full 200 amp service(yea, along with TWO power bills). Now I have central heat and air, 7.5 hp air compressor with evaporative dryer. Still have power to spare. I am glad that I didn't try to 'rob' power from the house.

Install the oven in the garage and run an exhaust vent from the oven to outside.

Haven't really noticed that much of a smell. Maybe its' masked by the fiberglass fumes!

Looks great. I've thought of doing the same thing with my ralleys. I'm still working on getting oven in garage, powder gun, bead blaster, etc. Some day . . .
