Default Packard spark plug wires.....?

Was doing some work on my 76's dizzy and noticed the brand name of the wires its using. I was thinking they very well may be the original factory set. Does anybody know what they came with??

The wires read 'Packard Electronic Suppression 8mm 2Q76'. A pic is posted below.

I'm pretty sure Packard was a division of GM and they made a solid Cu core wire at one time. Was hoping that someone else would know.....

Delco-Packard, back in the good old days when Delco was still part of GM.

I don't remember any 'factoy' plug wires being gray. That must be service parts replacement wire.

Most of the factory 8mm wires i`m familiar with are gray. Both GM and Ford. Chrysler s were orange and only 7mm.

They could be original or OEM replacements.

Forgot to mention the car has 49.6K original miles on her. Most everything that I have removed so far, which isn't a ton of stuff, has been original. The wires themselves look OK but the boots seem to be breaking down. Thinking about some braided SS wires this time....

I'm waiting to see what the plugs look like.... I won't get to them until I put the headers on though. I have a little cleanup to do anyway. Thanks for looking!!

Packard wires came on 69's but they were orange rather than gray. They were date coded. It looks like yours have a date code on them. 2 Q 76. Rick

They did make copper core but I believe GM only used them on L88 and ZL-1. And possibly on the very few Radio Delete cars that weren't L-88 and ZL-1. Rick

Added: 2 Q 76 means 2nd quarter 1976. In this case the Q is not a month designation.

NCRS Judging Guide:78-79

Spark Plug wires Packard Electric for Chevrolet. Markings along length "Packard T V R Surpression"...Date coded..thus, 3Q78 represents wires produced in third quarter of 1978.Spark plug wires are a gray 8 millimeter wire with black boots...replacement wires were black....

Richard Prince Restoration Guide:
All 68-69 Corvettes except those used with L88 or ZL1 engine, used black spark plug wires by Packard Electric. Wires for L88/ZL1 were brown in color.Only difference in wires were the boots...straight for big blocks at spark plugs(no radio),and with radio boots were gray with 135 degree bends at spark plugs and 90 degree bends at distributor..smallblocks had 90 degree bends at spark plugs..
All wires ink stamped " Packard T V R Surpression"...

Pretty sure they are original that's what came on my 79 it had 54,00km on it about 30,000 miles ....chances are if they still run along behind the heat shields for them under the exhaust manifolds they are original most guys don't take the time to run the wires that way after a tune up!
