I was in the Air Force in the late sixties and stationed at a flying training base. It seemed like 95% of the pilots drove Vettes and they had to pay for them. By the way, the other 5% drove Jaguar XKE's.

back in the day, USNA grads went to chevy dealerships in groups and bought 10 vetts at a time and got a discount
most of the early astronauts were USNA grads 
now the vehicle of choice seems to be the mustang
