It's hard work, and usually a PIA, but always worth the effort once you see the finished product!

Nice job!!!

Nice work - looks great! Hope this isn't a dumb question, but what cleaning products did you use? I plan on doing some engine bay detailing when I get my '76 out of winter storage in April. Thanks!

I started out soaking the engine real good with simple green. I power washed it after at the car wash, covering as much electrical as I could. Did that about three or four times within 2 weeks. Some items like the valve covers and air cleaner I stripped to metal and repainted. The engine has been done with rattle ball spray from Kragens. (regular ol chevy orange) Think it was krylon. Using aluminum foil for masking off. For the metal, egr , vacuum advance and fuel lines and such that were really bad I used rubbing compound and finished it with mothers billet polish. I just kinda focused on one thing at a time and just got real ****.Thats at least 8 hours of polishing work not including stripping the paint. Some may have done it faster, but thats what it took me. Exhaust manifolds were a whole different animal, removed complete and painted with Eastwoods hi temp silver, another job all by itself.

And one thing led to another, had a complete tune-up rerouting all the plug wires with exhaust off, I could go on and on.........

Ps next vacation spot for the wife and I will be a return trip to Toronto.

Greetings!
I know the feeling all too well. I started with removing one bolt
and ended up going a lot further than originally planned. I chalked it
up as a learning experience. I went right down to the pistons on the
block, pulled the radiator and support. I had the radiator re-cored and
rebuilt the support. More to come in the spring with the correct plug
wire metal covers and so on, but have this to show for now.

Its supposed to be fun. Its your hobby.
So my friend and wife tell me.

Thanks - I appreciate the info!

P.S Southern California is one of our favourite vacation spots. My wife and son and I usually head to the Orange County / Anaheim / Huntington Beach area, and we've been to Long Beach too! Be sure to PM or contact me when you're back in T.O. Take care!

Looks great, engine bays become alot of work each detail reveals another that requires attention. This is my before and after.
