Today I'm going to begin installing the new carpet in my '76. I have removed all of the old carpet and will trim my new pieces as I fit them in. I need to know do I use adhesive on the sections of carpet that have the jute padding on the back?
Glue is not necessary. I used glue on mine(spray adhesive) since I put down reflectix and I was concerned about it slipping. I did not use glue between the carpet and the reflectix except on the ends that I wanted to be held down.
I don't know what part of the country you live in....but the C3's get pretty warm inside the cockpit because of the exhaust system running underneath and due to the tranny generating heat. BEFOREyou install the carpeting, put down a layer of heat insulation. You can find several archive threads on this subject. When I did mine, I lived in Phoenix, AZ area. I purchased a roll of inexpensive Reflectix insulation at Home Depot, cut it to fit with scissors, spray glued it down, and used foil heat duct tape to seal the joints. Put it everywhere in the cabin and on the vertical panel behind the seats. That means up the firewall as far as you can reach, under the radio and covering the entire tranny tunnel. You won't believe the difference in cabin temps.
You don't need any glue on your new carpet, unless you decide not to use the carpet "plugs"; then put glue on vertical surfaces to keep it in place.
