Default Engine Compartment

I am close to pulling my engine in my 75 coupe and have several questions.
- What items should I look at repairing replacing while the engine is out?
- I searched on engine compartment to determine the best method to clean up and coat. I did not find much info. I am not looking for show quality but am curious what to clean with and what to use to coat the area?
- Can I remove the radiator core support while the engine is out or is the support a major structural member of the car?

Use Simple Green or Purple Power to clean everything. Degreaser in some areas too, and lots of rags and paper towels.

Once it's all clean, mask and tape everything off. Foil is nice for quick masking of things, as well as painter's masking tape.

Paint with flat black or preferred color. If something is broken or not functioning, replace it or fix it. Other than that, just make it pretty and ready for the engine.

The radiator core support can come out while the engine is out but it really holds up the inner fenders (bolts from the side) which in turn holds up the front end. I would say that you stand a good chance of getting your hood height and alignment out. I would paint the core support in place unless you find that it has rotted along the bottom (which mine was). Good luck with the project.

While my motor was out (Body Off), I stripped the engine compartment, replaced the rad support, header bar reinforcement, cleaned and repaired wiring harness, rebuilt headlight assemblies cleaned and painted everything with Krylon Semi Gloss, sandblasted and painted all the metal brackets, and replaced rubber clutch boot etc.
Its a whole lot easier to work on when there is no motor in...or chassis for that matter!

Start of project

lights redone, rad support replaced

Good time to fix any wiring issues, bad vacume lines etc

Thought I would shine up some of the metal bits before I put them back in the engine compartment
