Default Q-Jet #

I pulled an old Q-Jet off my garage shelf that I purchased from NAPA for a '69 Grand Prix over 20+ years ago. The number on it I do not find in Q-Jet #'s listed on various internet sites. The # is 4887 S and B4 underneath. Anyone have an idea as to what this is and if it is of any practical value such as parts for my '76. I don't want to just toss it.

Those numbers are not the carb number - those are build date codes. You need to find the carb number. Other than jets and rods, there are no parts that will interchange between a Pontiac carb and a Chevy carb so the carb is of no use to you for your '76 Vette - the '69 carb is not even the same type of Q-Jet - it's a divorced choke carb, while the one of your Vette is an integral choke carb. The Pontiac carb has no use or applicatioln at all for your Vette.

I know where the numbers should be (comparing to where they are on my '76), but these are the only ones there in that location on the carb. Perhaps they are somewheres else on some Q-Jets? In any event, does this carb have any value? Thanks for responding, Lars.

I had a rebuilt carb on my car without any number on it.....

I ditched it for a known entity.

Maybe some of the major rebuilders shave them off. Thanks for the info.

4887s is a q-jet for a 69 pontiac 350, 400 or 428 that was made by carter for the aftermarket. Carter used thier part # instead of the Rochester # on carbs they sold in a Carter Box. the carb may be of value to a pontiac owner but i would not use it on a chevy.

i hope this helps henry @ olescarb

Just an update on this carb, I put it on Ebay and got $96.50 plus shipping for it. This goes to show you that never toss a car part away unless it truly is junk.
