I remember reading about or seeing an ad for a rechromer in Bloomington Illinois which isn't that far from you. I don't remember the name but it was located on the south side not far from I74. Maybe you could do an internet search or get a Bloomington phone book.
It's hard to believe there isn't one closer to you like in Springfield. Maybe someone closer to that area can chime in to offer more help. You might also try to contact a speed shop or streetrod club in your area to ask who they would use. Good luck in finding a shop.

I have also heard of a rechromer in Bloomington as well. I believe they also do powder coating and ceramic coating. If you don't have any luck, try Kevin at VettesByDesign (Supporting Vendor) he is located in Decatur, but I believe he has a few connections with some local rechromers.

Please fill us in on who you end up sending the parts to. I'd really like to see some of the local shop's work.

The name of the place is Maas Radiator. They do not do rechroming right there. they ship it to somewhere in ohio. I just had twoo rear bumpers done at a cost of $400.

Jerry Martin of Charger Metals in Phila
bus number 215 289 9227 Highly recommended
Jerry just triple plated my three bumpers for a 72 in ONE week! With door to door delivery service (he lives near by). They look great!

Not sure if your price will be the same, but he did the three for 1000.

What parts are you having plated? I need to get the rear bumpers done on my 72. I took them off Saturday and saw this thread.

Thanks,
George

Do any of these platers do repairs? I have a grille that I would like chromed but it has a crack in it. It seems like an easy fix...

Damien at Metal Finishing (Indy) is very honest about what can be rechromed and what can't--won't waste his time and your money---he has tons of work--hope you are not in a hurry. I am having some ignition shield parts, exhaust tips (had to buy SS & get rechromed--the originals he said were a waste), and the license plate bezel--didn't want a cheap replacement. Said last week got got 10 license plate bezels--out of 10 only 2 were worth rechroming. If you get your bumpers done make sure you paint the nonchromed side to prevent it from rusting through from that side.

Thanks for all the input guys. I will still be looking around have thought about going to St.Louis and that was a good ideal abbout the apainting the back side. It has given me the thought about powder coating them with some chrome or black chrome powder and we are set up to do here at home. Looks like we will glass bead blast the stuff before hande the side covers are peeling off and it might save us some $ with the plater will check first with them.

As we get the stuff done and we decide who to go with will let the forum know how it went and the cost.

thanks and keep giving the great input. WRO87

If you haven't found a chrome plater yet, you might be interested in an ad I just saw about a plating shop in North Pekin.
The address is 206 Lincoln Blvd and the phone is 309.382.2696. The ad says they do nickel, chrome, and copper plating.

Alberts Custom Chrome in Cheswick, Pa. Top notch work at a fair price. 724 265-3810 . Or Dale Eddy Tarentum, Pa. for the small stuff. Dale can only do items that will fit in a 2X2 tank but his work is very good quality and his prices are unbelievably cheap. 724 224-5119
