I own a 1969 L89 coupe and the chrome is stripping off the sidepipe covers. The base looks OK and isn't pitted and I am wondering if anyone has had that part refinished with any success. I am in the Medford, Oregon area and we don't have any shops that are recommended for this. Any help would be appreciated.
It's on the right coast from you but give Librandi's in Harrisburg, Pa. a call. The cover's won't know how far they're traveling. There are quite a few very good platers in Hemmings. I think it could easily cost as much $$$$$ to plate them as to buy new covers from Paragon.

Alan

PM sent. I have the same problem and no shop to turn to...but I only need one side rechromed...other is perfect
I have a 73 with 69 style side pipes and had to decide whether to replace the system (chrome covers were really bad) or try another system. The sound was so great I looked into having the covers rechromed. I found Superior Chrome in Houston TX and they not only did a great job but the price was right, under a thousand for all of the parts. The problem is when you take them apart you can really run into problems with the insulators under the covers. If they were on as long as mine were the parts begin to break apart and then your into replacing them too. I like superior chrome so well I sent my bumpers to them too. Good luck.

I replated mine many years ago at JP Custom Plating. They were at 1750 N. Campbell in Chicago. They did a great job but it's been so long I can't vouch for how they'd do today. I did a google search and they don't appear to be around any more - A bike shop is at the same address and phone number.
They typically need replating every 20 years, so I will be watching these posts for my next round....
