We did some complain about the speeding in our part of the street but what i have notice is the one's who are always speeding are not the ones that get cought. The one who get cought are the one that for a reason or another will just pass the limit and by the time they are pull over, the real fast one ( mostly always the sames cars) get away.
I understand what you're saying sir.
Many times before I write up someone, I have given 5 warnings.
In a 12hour shift, I write 5-10tags average. The warnings doubles that !

As for "Where are they when you need them !!! ARGH ! "
If you notice any patterns of your speeding car(s), keep track of time he goes by. If possible, obtain a plate number. When you have accumulated the above info, contact your local police detachment and provide them with the details. If you were to contact me, I would be glad to tag you along with me and clock him accordingly. I would even take you to court with me as a witness if the violator should decide to contest the offence notice !

Your taxes is our salaries. Don't be shy. The police needs YOU/the public to enforce the laws....

When you got your ticket, I wonder how many illegal aliens were hanging out intown waiting for work, the ones this cop probably drives by daily and IGNORES in Virginia. They get to break the law because the rich need their lawns mowed, but you, well your a different story, they can rob you for big $$$$.

Police officers have a busy schedule. Be carefull when you say about the cop that IGNORES the law breakers. If you are so concerned about the criminals, by all means report the illegal aliens and you will be the MAIN WITNESS in the officer's case. Stop complaining and do something about it !

If thats true that this ticket may cost you near or over $1,000.oo that is clearly revenue generating, and has NOTHING to do w/ punishment, your being ROBBED!!!!

The violator was caught and he knows that. He asked for guidance and many of us provided good advice. It's his call now

How these polititions get away with passing these insane laws is beyond me. Remember in the 70s how the Govt. pushed "55 mph saves lives", well now its back up to 65, don't they care about our safety anymore, guess not.

Times have changed and unfortunately(good or bad) we need to change/adapt with them

Fight the ticket.
My current speed demon, catch me if you can
Be wise my friend. "Catch me if you can" If you drive with that mentality, one day you will get caught and your speeding fine will be way up there !

Hi Phil, just bustin on ya in law enforcement a bit with that comment
I do keep safety in mind, for myself and others, generally the highway is empty when I go WOT comming off an onramp and ease off around 85-90 mph. That Bird hugs the road like a cat and can brake on a dime, just want to have a bit of fun with it while I have it.

Let me fill you in on whats going on in America lately and why this mans ticket gets me so POed.
First off we're lied to and treated like idiots by our current Pres. Bush almost on a daily basis.
He recently commuted a sentance of one of his buddies by the name of Scooter Libby after a lengthy trial that cost taxpayers millions to prosecute. Bush said the sentance was to "harsh".
Couldn't a $1,000. plus fine for only 20 plus mph over the speed limit be also considered to "harsh", I think so, but this man won't get the same break.

Then that state comes up with a phrase "abusive driving", that was designed to put the speeder in a mindset that he did something really bad, its a joke. What is "abusive" here is a $1000. plus fine, but the state calling this mans actions abusive takes the spotlight off the real abuse, their fine.

For 20 plus mph over the limit, a $150-$200 fine would have been OK and fair. This state is using his speed as an excuse to litteraly robb this man.
How would a poor man pay a fine like this on limited income?

As far as illegals in Virginia, Georgia and the rest of our country, I see on the news people trying to have these laws enforced constantly. They call immigration, they call the police and get no action. Pres. Bush lies to us with his propaganda that these people do work Americans won't, that's a blatant lie The truth is these people are Americas' new slaves for the rich, period, and I do have sympathy for some of them. When our own Govt. so blatantly ignores the laws of our Country it causes me, and plenty of others I know to loose all respect for them and in our laws.

I was brainwashed all during my school years with the Pledge of Allegience that ends in "Liberty and Justice for All", then as an adult you see what a crock these politions have turned that great ideal into.

I do agree that this man should pay a fine, if it was "reasonable" as stated above, but it seems everyone wants to jump all over him with an exorbitant fine and no doubt an unwarrented high insurance hike to follow and take full advantage of him, thats my problem with this.

The reality is there's two sets of laws here in the U.S., one set for the rich and one set for the poor and middle class. A lot of us have had enough of their BS from the rich and the polititions getting away with doing whatever they please.

If you don't have any priors, call or visit the prosecuting attorney. Tell him that you received this ticket in error (be prepared to explain why). Also tell him/her that your thinking of hiring an attorney because you been wronged and want to go to court to clear this up.....but it is so darn expensive to prove your innocence even if you win....and, that you would settle for 10 over and pay the fine. I seen this work several times...prosecuter wins the case on the spot, no tying up the court or the officer.....and you get a reduced fine and hopefully supervision where the ticket comes off your record in 6 months), no court appearance (missed work is $$) or attorney fees.

Don't kid yourself.

The only way that ticket comes off your record is to be dismissed. If supervision, it shows no points against your DRIVING record, but the insurance will see it and know you got it if they check.

Been there, done that, got the higher rates.

And in Illinois.

I had a couple of supervision, as it seemed the prudent thing to do. then I got hit with rate increases.

From then on, it is in to fight it. At the time, a $100 or $200 to the lawyer was cheaper than $100 every 6 months for the next three years.

Default You got all good points guys....

Insurrance rep can find out if he really wants to search for your driving history.

Like I said earlier, I've gotten my share of tickets at 23yrs of age and it backfired on me when I applied for the force. Had to wait one year to have a clean driving record. It wasn't funny anyomre !

We could go on and on about this....
Unfortunately the best solution is :

1) DON'T SPEED

or

2) IF YOU DO, DON'T GET CAUGHT, ELSE YOU PAY THE PRICE(fines or lawyers and insurance premiums...)

Drive safe guys.

My last ticket 17 years ago was for 75 in a 55. I was almost sideswiped by his unmarked car as he pulled in the passing lane I was in moving up on him.
Got pulled over, radiator hose blew a minute later, was a bad day overall
I did just what you mentioned, I took it to Court, asked the DA if he could lower it to a 64 in a 55, he did and I had a few less points for the ticket.
I didn't mind paying that ticket because I was at fault, and I wasn't robbed during the process, unlike the fine scams that exist today in these states.
Thats good advice and he should try it before court.

Edit: Phil7755, you sound like a pretty decent cop and an easy going guy from your posts. Thats what helps make a good cop in my opinion.

Don't forget ! In any proffessions, there are some rotten apples !
I've had some bad customers too ! They wouldn't believe what you just wrote down

For me the RESPECT is number one.
Secondly, the APPROACH and HONESTY !

When the driver admits to his violation, he has gained lots and very often walks away with a simple warning...

I see VIDEOs taken by members of the public and I pitty the officer that will need to explain to the discipline board of his actions....

Act in good faith while doing your job. You will be critisized but never convicted... That's my MOTO !

Ah, I am sorry. Anyhow, go to court and you will get it knocked down from reckless. Take a calibration certificate of the vehicle with you and also, try the online course for traffic school ($44) beforehand. And say you are sorry.

Listen, I know, I got 4 tickets last year alone. Being a female I HAVE tried every excuse in the book. I have to suck it up and drive slow now which makes me furious because everyone in their POS car blows by me. And I am the only one pulled over.

MA is the only state that has been kind to me..I got 10 warnings in about 5 years and never a ticket. In VA, they really have heard every excuse! I was on my way to fight a reckless driving ticket in court and got a speeding ticket. UGH!!!!

One thing I didn't mention that there were three or four cars around me that were doing the same speed I was. The only reason he came after me is that I was the only car that turned right at the next road and the others went straight. It took him over two miles to catch up with me and that is after I turned and was doing 50 in a 45 zone. He must have been one shy of his quota and had an extra day to get it. I am going to get a lawyer and fight this one.

Someone can correct me if I am wrong but I don't think that is just the fine in VA. Seems like they recently passed a new law where there is a fine, something along the lines of what you normally see 100-200 or so. Then there is another fee that they charge on top of the fine. This only applies if you are a resident.

Their reasoning was that the streets are in such a need of repair and they don't have money in the budget for it, they decided to let traffic violators pay for them. It was that or raise everyones taxes.

I'm not saying it's a good policy or bad....just something unique. Actually from the fees I saw his "fine" were low compared to some that I saw listed. It definately doesn't pay to speed there.

Hire a ticket attorney and fight the ticket.. I would NEVER pay for a ticket.. I have received several tickets during the last 5 years and have gotten all of them dismissed by my attorneys.. My most recent one was in Texas and I used

http://www.tixnix.com/

to find a ticket attorney in the area. They also have lawyers in Virgina. Give it a try!

Like I said, I get lots of tickets and I do have ZERO points on my license!!

Aktbird, If any of my statements offended you I apologize for that.
I didn't sign on here to start arguements or fight w/ people, just basically want to learn more about C3s like most here.

That mans potential fine just hit a raw nerve w/ me so I let loose on them (govt.) If you walked a mile in my shoes you'd have a better understanding on my views, but again I apologize, this really isn't the place for that strong of opinions to be expressed.

I tried to get a duplicate title on an Illinois car so I could retain the old one (really old, thought it would be a neat souvenir for the car) and found that the entire system in Illinois has really gone nuts in pricing now from what it was 15 years ago and back. I couldn't afford to title and license cars there anymore.

So it is quite possible they are so messed up that supervision will knock it off the record. Of course, you used to get supervision for a $100 fine and 6 months, but I bet if the pricing system of everything else is an indication, it is probably triple that now.

Usually you have no problem with what is on the record as long as the insurance isn't looking at it, like for a new policy (not a renewal) or a re-evaluation on a long term that has had no changes for a long time. The problem is you don't know when they might look. It used to be you had to be clean for 3 years or 7 years, depending on how they felt and who the company was, and you never knew until they asked.
