does anyone know what that green wire, clear-ish connector is? i can't find anything to connect it to. it comes out of the wire bundle driverside of the center tunnel, right next to the shifter. it's just one wire.
on my 79 digramn there is a lt green wire that comes out of the harmonica on the steering column and goes to the "seat belt key buzzer"...do you get a buzz after you put the key in that goes off when you insert the belt?
regardless, this wouldn't be part of your starter issue
ahhh...okay, yeah, that was acting a little wierd the other day. i think it got tugged loose when I changed the radio. the speaker wires and such had been sorta tangled.
I'll look at it later tonight and let people know what i found. when i was at the parts store, i bought a multimeter. i figured for the extra 13 dollars, it was better than just a test light.
Problem fixed. there was a kill switch installed, and if you cycle through it enough, it would sometimes start, even though it didn't reliably start in either position. I just removed the whole thing, and now the car starts fine. thanks for the suggestions guys.
This sounds ridiculous, but my new C3 decided not to start for the man who hauled her to me. I was so upset; I had never even driven the car! He told me he tried every thing then, he opened the passenger door with the key and voila.
Turns out the factory alarm decided to operate with the passenger door. I have never been able to recreate it; but she starts for me every time.
I would try the key in both doors. I know, it sound dumb, but hey, worked for me.
good luck.
... congrats on fixing it. Last summer I went through something similar with my '81... exact same symptoms as yours. My wiring under my dash is total *** (all needs to be replaced), but here is what happened incase anyone else needs it in the future.
