Last week I changed my water pump, power steering pump, and alternator. After I was finished I went to start my vette. The starter hung and would not let go. It keep turning even after I Stopped turning the key. Wile I was trying to stop the starter by disconnecting the neg battery terminal it stooped on its own. Before I disconnected the battery I had power to my car, the lights and dash had power. Today I replaced the starter with a reman Auto Zone starter. After I finished I reconnected the battery and nothing happened. No power, nothing It was like the battery was not even connected. I checked everything thing I could think. I had the battery tested, it is good. Could it be a problem with the starter. I am stumped on this one. I need some help with this one.
Im looking at the wiring diag for a 77 and the generator has 4 wires from it. (2) go to v reg, (1) ground, (1) battery. Out of the V reg there are (4) wires. (20 back to the generator (1) ignition sweitch (1) back to the battery. it appears there is a fusible link back to the battery. Did you check that?
Probably the fusable link from the horn relay stud to the starter, it supplies all the power to the car, looks like red 10 to 14 brown (link part) and then back to red 10, single wire point to point, check that, and appently there's another one from the starter as well.

if i had to guess i would say the old starter solenoid locked up and by the time you went to disconnedct the fusible link down at the starter end had melted
I wouldn't use an AutoZone starter for a paperweight, but that's a different issue.....
Did you get all the power wires back under the big lug? Did you put the purple wire back on the right terminal? It should be on the "S" terminal (closest to the block). If you did, sounds to me like it could be a bad ignition switch in the column or bad wiring somewhere. Remove the purple wire and see if you get 12v to it while turning the key to start position. If you do sounds like a starter issue, if you don't it's wiring or column related.
Thanks, I will replace the f-links at the starter and check the wiring again. I hope this fixes the problem, I don't want to have to pay a shop to fix this problem.
