Frame Stencil Information
in my case, the car was built Nov. 5, 1973...
according to the ncrs technical information and judging guide...there is supposed to be a part number and a frame assembly date stenciled in white upside down on the passengers side of the frame rail just behind the front wheel....
anybody have any information
it would be appreciated
thanks

Just to add to the confusion, this is my 78 Pace Car. The Vette was assembled 3-18-78, two months after the frame date.

i went to dr. rebuild and there is limited information on '74 corvettes...im assuming KapsSA has the catalog in hand and looked...
question KapsSa...after the part number ...is the "271" the sequential build order for your car? Do you have any build sheet or tank sticker that shows a 271?
i find it hard to believe that there arent enough 73, 74, 75 restorations going on out there to warrant this information....somebody has to know...
also...i went to ncrs archives and i guess you now have to become a member just to view the archives..or ask a question....
not that its a big deal...but jeez...

I don't know what the 271 is. The NCRS judging manual simply states that the frame part number is followed by a dash number, examples such as 261,270, 272, and 280(for 78). They don't even show my 271. I don't think NCRS knows what it means, either. My secquence no. is 900009. I see no 271 on any of my documentation.
Doc's part numbers for the frame stencils are:
8704158 for the 74 manual 339720 stencil
8704160 for the 74 auto 339719 stencil
Either is $14.
Ya gotta call and talk to em tho to discuss the dates if you're not sure.
Also, the catalog states the frame date can pre date assembly by 2-8 weeks.

Also...frames were stenciled at the A.O. Smith manufacter in Granite City Illinois where frames were made so it has nothing to do with the VIN. Frames were stamped elsewhere with the VIN at the St Louis plant. And that's a great photo Kaps posted...yellow paint was used in later years.

The Best of Corvette for Corvette Enthusiasts
i did find everything needed for the 74 frame at Dr. Rebuild...
they have everthing on their internet catalog for a '74 including the frame stencil with the correct fonts, the gas tank stencil and the driveshaft stencil kit....
the ncrs site will let you get into their archives for 30 days..then you must become a member....
alas...ncrs did not help me any where near as much as you guys did....i appreciate the help!
