78 L-82 4 speed...was just thinking about all the trips I've put on this vette since I bought it in 1979...and only repair roadtripping was a power steering pressure hose in New Mexico....
California desert...
First big road trip..1980...San Diego to Crater Lake,Or...1800 miles
Trip to Montana with 12 year old son...1983...he is 37 now...and wants the 69...
7,000 mile coast to coast...2002
Other than stuff just wearing out, only real repairs were broken valve spring and cracked head in within past two years...

Rich, based on some of your other posts and now this, you are one of the few here that really uses their car. (now I'll get flamed with a 1000 others out there :d) Great post!
Having the sister to your car (vin number 29616), I really enjoy seeing a SA, L-82 4 speed, oyster leather looking so good.

It's been kinda a rolling restoration...my carpet needs changing in front...using duct tape to keepit from slipping...
I'm hoping this post encourages others to get out and enjoy theirs more...they can start with some weekend trips and get some confidence.....
My vin is 36113...I'm second owner...soon I'll get the 69 out...78 needs a little rest..137,563 miles...I've put 2000 miles on it this past month or so...
Rich, thanks for the great pics. I enjoy a piece of history- especially if its a sleek and durable vette. I put 165K mles on my 93 in the 11 years I owned it- vettes are meant to be driven, hard if possible, But you leave me in the dust with your 78- I bought my 80 about 6 years ago with 55K miles, and rebuilt it and drive it regularly, but I'm only at about 95K miles today. Ya gotta love drivin the C3's.

I almost bought a 93 6 speed before I got the 69....good combo on the C3's....smallblock for the "Road Dog"....and 69 502 for the pucker factor...
My son's pad in Cluster Springs,Va...we ran the Bue Ridge Parkway from there...
Here is a hoot.....California,Missouri on US 50...
Rich,
Great Pictures and awesome stories to along with them. California Missouri is not too far south of where I'm at. So how many miles do you have on that Corvette now? They were made to drive and I'm glad to see someone doing that!

We were just crusin and I spotted that sign..so got the pic...I really enjoyed traveling thru Missouri...we even drove thru the Katy Trail on state route 94...and a place called Herman..???
All told,that trip in 2002 was 7,000 miles..over 4,000 on two lanes..
On the 78 it is 137,563...as of today...original engine...the 69 has 95,000,but only 21,000 on the 502...
Rich
This weekend was the first time my 73 has been on the highway in a number of years. Brought back from the dead over the past few months, today was my day off and I took a drive east on 8, over the mountains and down to Ocotillo, then headed north through Anza Borrego State Park to Borrego Springs, then up over the mountains past Santa Isabel and Ramona. It felt like being a test pilot taking the car out for the first time like that. The trip showed a ton of stuff that needs to be worked on, but I am thirlled it made it all the way around my loop. Here is a pic.

That picture in Grants New Mexico reminds me of my solo trip in an 87 coupe cross country and on Route 66. I had car problems in Grants and was stuck there for a week in a flea bag motel on Route 66. Other than that a great trip. Road trips are GOOD

Best laundromat in the whole country...!! When you walk in,owner greats you asking if you need any help and serves free coffee & donuts....in my case,I was there at 6am while wife was back at motel putting her war paint on...anyway,I put everything we had in one washer...the owners wife walked up and said you should not mix colors like that...and proceeded to sort and wash our clothes...
I washed clothes in New Mexico,Missouri and Virginia...btw...
Little story here...leaving Bowling Green,Ky...we decided to take hwy 68 west...(it had been raining two days already). This was our first rain on whole trip...and my decision to run Yokohama Avid St's paid off...along the way,we pulled off in Fairview,Ky to see the Jefferson Davis Monument (Pic).
Anyway, for the next 150 miles it just poured...I pulled into a gas station, and my wife lifted her purse from the carpet and it was soaked !! Carpet was wet in both footwells...ducts were dry,so heater core ok.....later discovered I had left those little plastc footwell plugs out before the trip...
It gets better...I carried my registration, insurance, etc in a pouch behind my seat....we got stopped in New Mexico two days later at a DUI check point...when I pulled out the pouch to show the LEO our registration...they were wet !!! The officer had to hold them with both hands so they would not tear... He asked me why they were wet...
