Default Headlight problem

Maybe someone can help... I have a 76 that has a problem with raising and lowering the headlights. The bypass switch will activate it up and down, but the headlight swich on the dash will only turn the lights on and off. Would this most likely be a bad headlight switch or is there a relay of some type I should check first?

Sounds like the vacuum switch on the headlight switch isn't working.

It could be as simple as a vacuum hose becoming disconnected. You just have to 'chase' the lines down to see if it is all correct [or not]. It could also be that the headlight actuator(s) needs to be replaced; but there are check-out procedures for proving that is the problem before you spend money to fix it. Check archives for more info..

if the bypass is working correctly, then (to me) it sounds more like a vacuum problem than anything else.. there is a ton of vacuum hosing for this system that ive noticed.. but if you track down the problem, you will be that much more informed on your headlight vacuum system

Mine open and close with either switch. Sounds like you have narrowed it down to the headlight switch. I think the bottom switch is to lock the headlights in the open position for repairs etc. If they open and close with the bypass switch, you would think the vacuum is good. Just my .02.
