Thanks for the suggestions. Are those vendors on the list here somewhere?

Also... WHERE are the shoulder attachment points? I've got the assmebly manual and it seems pretty obvious where the shoulder harness attchment goes. However, I don't see any obvious bolt holes where I think they should be. Do I need to drill through somewhere to find the holes? They should be there for a '73, no?

The mount plates are outside the body sandwhiched between the body & frame. Look above the rear tires. They rivet to the body. Look at the AIM more closley and you'll see where they go. If the rear compartment carpet was replaced then you'll need to pull it up above the wheel wells to find the plate bolt hole to be able to punch the hole in the carpet for the bolt to go through. There's also the little metal retainer which the retractor cover screws to, which also goes through the carpet.

This is my 69 AIM...but look at view "B"....then see position of retractor in pic below...AS GD70 stated, mounting plate is between frame/body outside almost center inline with top of rear tire...

BTW...Andover has hardware, mounting plates, etc,if you need them, but your mounting plate should be there for the retractor..

You mean a plate for the shoulder retractor? I'll have to take a pic and post it to see if anyone can see something I'm missing... Do I need to save anything from the existing retractors on the floor?

The rear body mount for the belt *will* be installed on the body, weather or not it came with soulder belts or not.
But that's the wrong point for the '73. The 73's plate is horozontal on the TOP of the rear wheel wells. You sould be able to see it, like a previous poster said, if you look at the top ot the rear wheel wells above where the frame passes through, from the wheel well side.

Greetings!

I too had the very same problem,
trying to break free my lap belt bolts.
The carpeting was embedded through the belt bracket
holes to the body. I sprayed nearly the entire can of the
smelly PB Blaster every 30 minutes for 4 hours.

Of course I found other things to do during those 4 hours.
At first, I tried my 3/8" socket wrench with no luck. Then my
1/2" socket wrench. Again, no luck. Since I didn't have a breaker
bar, I was beginning to worry.

As I looked around the garage, I made eye contact across
the garage at my 3 Ton Craftsman floor jack. I noticed the heavy
duty hollowed handle on it with the removable attachment stud and
thought, there's my breaker bar.

The inside diameter was just enough to go around my 1/2" socket
wrench. The perfect lever. With a couple of quick reefs, was able to
break free the 37 year hold on those bolts.

OK... thanks for all the input...

So I realized that part of the problem was I had one little strip of carpet left on the passenger side (where I was looking) and it happened to be covering the bolt hole.

There's only one hole per side? I'll need that a bracket/brace to mount it, I'm guessing. Is the hole threaded? I couldn't tell. The diagrams aren't terribly informative on these little details.

Thanks...

To answer your questions -
Yes, the holes are threaded.
There is (1) hole per side for each seat belt - (1) on the tunnel for the buckle,
(1) on the inside, beneath the door sill. The bracket you speak of, not sure what you mean.
There is the end piece (non buckle or latch) end that has a thru hole where your mounting bolt
goes through to attach the seat belt to the car.

I don't know if they're on this list, but Google will give you their web addresses.

That's not a bracket,, it's a piece to modify the seats to allow a belt to pass through them,, see my pic above and look at the adapter again to see where it goes.

OK it's almost all out now - really. One last bolt remains... there are two bolts on each side that hold theseatbelt guide to the floor. I have three of those four bolts out... the fourth onehas a nut that I can't reach. The bolt is loose. Any ideas on how you get a bolt out when it's loose but you can't reach its nut? I'm scratching my head and getting ready to reach for a drill...

Another question I just have to ask... what, pray tell, is so special about the mounting hardware for these belts that justifies spending $20 for four bolts and acrush washers? Inquiring minds want to know... well, I want to know anyway.

Oh, heh heh... and one more "how do I get THIS bolt out" question... my driver side seat belt guide was only attached by one bolt. In the other hole, there's a bolt with a nut on the other side. This nut is frozen and is in such a position that there's no way I can get a wrench onto it to completely remove it. I would really like to remove it and reinstall everything properly... but this one look like it will require an intervention by the Old Car gods, or possibly a drill...

My lap belt bolt is rusted solid. I'm using PB Blaster and it's not budging...I'd like to heat the bolt but I'm afraid of damaging the fiberglass. What's the best way of protecting the fiberglass?
