Can that "vega" wheel be swapped out for a regular wheel? I have one that is disintegrating. Feels real sticky. I've been told that is what the plastics in it do when the wheel is falling apart. Anybody know?
Have to find a hub from a pre-76 non-tilt column. After that, just assemble the rest of the parts, bolt on the steering wheel and go.

Here's the conversion I did from a '76 to a '75....
Do I need all those parts beside the hub or were you replacing other worn items?
I followed Jim Shea's paper with regards to the change. I did a write up on it a while back, I think that I ordered the star screw which was about 25 bucks but I didn't need it. Other than that, everything was needed that you see in the pics. The Retainer Snap was busted so I had to buy a new one of those too which Jim didn't have in his list. You may want to go ahead and get one of those from GM before you start, just in case. BTW, mine is a T&T column..
The Vega was only one of the cars that that steering wheel came in. And then only on Vega GT's. Generous Motors used them also in Camaros ETC. Peace,,,Moosie

Buying all those parts to change it looks expensive. My car will never be bloomington gold material so a nice grant wheel will probably be in my future. I looked at several "vega" style wheels on fleabay and decided to go the grant route. I don't care for the vega styling and it will probably start dissolving like the one I got. No I won't be buying the welded chain model, but grant has some nice european style wheels that might look nice and also some that look very similar to the three spoke vette wheels. I looked at their adaptors and I don't see any reason why their hub adaptors won't work. Anybody familiar with aftermarket wheels and this particular steering column feel free to comment. My column has tilt but no tele and has the vega wheel.
