Default windshields

does anyone know the truth about c.3 front windshields,i have a 72 coupe and my glass guy installed the windshield a month ago now one of my friends needs one on a 72 conv the glass books say they are different parts ,i called my parts supplier and he said they were the same, no different coupes or conv, the glass supplier said the conv are back ordered and have to be shipped in ,or he could order a safelite windshield but they are inferior compared to lof or ppg glass ,are the coupes and conv the same ?,

The AIM shows 1 part number for the windshield, and doesn't differentiate between coupe or convertible. I believe there IS a difference in the door glass for coupes and convertibles.

Safety codes are used to indicate glass type or how it was treated. Windshield glass is laminated (when it breaks, it hangs to the laminate)and uses an AS1 while side glass uses AS2 (termpered glass).

And than there is the "window type" code so coupe windshields will carry an M24 code while side glass would call for either M74 (coupe) or M75 (convertible). And than there is the date code. Lots of codes.

In later years, we see codes for the rear glass (M83) and the glass t-tops (m113).
