Default removing 1971 stingray emblems

It appears that there are no retainer nuts used to hols the Stingray
emblems on the fron fenders of a 71 car.

Is there a sticky pad on the back side of the emblems?

If so can they be removed without risking damage to the paint?

Thanks

David

Use a hair dryer to warm up(not boil) the area and then use a plastic bondo spreader to gently pry the emblem up. Do it a little on one side then move to the opposite side. Then do the middle. Keep going back and forth and your emblem will pop up.

also dental floss or fishing line and it will come off, hold it tight and run it along slowly.

When I read the OP, I thought you meant no speed nuts on pins. That's how my 70 Stingray emblems are fastened ... w/ 4 pins on each through the body, but no speednuts. The responses so far seem to indicate adhesive and no pins.

I thought I had read other threads in the past that indicated that the 71 had pins ... and the issue was ... how many pins ... 3 or 4.

So please be careful w/ removal ... I'd hate to see you break off pins ... but perhaps the other responses are correct ... and it's just me having a 'senior moment'.

Good luck.

l never removed mine and also thought it had pins.

my comment on removing the emblem is based on other emblems I removed, so be careful if you do have pins.

There are indeed 4 posts attached to ORIGINAL Stingray emblems and there are 4 holes in the fiberglass that these pins go THRU. There were NO barrel clips used originally to secure the emblem.

The original posts were 3/4 inches long, later service replacement emblems used shorter 1/2 inch posts. There was an adhesive on the back of the emblems.

I've never had my "Stingray" script emblems off to check. The lettering tn the rear of the car, however, had little press-in pin receivers which grabbed on to the emblem pins [kind of like a Chinese (finger) handcuff]. Press those in the holes first and press the emblem into them. Might the script emblems be installed the same way? {I know that most of the later replacement emblems are stick-ons.}

Excuse me.
Hope this isn't a hijack of the thread. My apologies to the OP. Let me know, please.

Bought my '72 and Bubba used what looks like 'gorilla snot' (3M weatherstrip adhesive, yellow) on the 'Stingray' script on the passenger fender. The drivers side is OEM; no prob.
Being the consumate pro, he applied liberally, stuck it on (no posts on script, that I can see), walked away, and it slid on the paint before drying. Not terrible out of line but it ain't right, either.

Been pondering if I'm screwed. I like the idea of using floss or maybe fishing line after a controlled warmup with the hair dryer; can see that effective with correct adhesive but not sure with weatherstrip adhesive. Anyone know of a cleaner gentle enough that won't damage or lift the paint but will remove that yellow crap off the fender?

Thanks for any help.

All , for clarification

There were 4 holes in the fender for teh pins. No speed nuts

The pins are for proper placement

The adhesive was used at each pin and is used to hold the emblem on

I was able to remove very easiley with the hair dryer advice I had received.

Then used a little acetone to clean adhesive frorm paint

My problem , was some knuckle head had drilled and placed the emblem without ensuring it was level. Not off muck but enought to bug me.

It will be good to go in a couple of days.

I have to fill in 2 holes and make 2 more new holes.

Hey Alan , all is well sir , hope the same is true for you and your family.

You are right about projects , I can always find something to fix.

I was at the 1st car show of the year Saturday and where I was sitting I was looking at the poorly installed emblem all day. I finally decide to move that project to top of the list.

Just need to paint over the holes I filled in and re install the emblem.

I am really enjoying the car. The Dyna Matt type material I installed last December really makes a difference on interior noise. The new exhaust also sounds just right.

Where are you with your car?

I will be sending your materials back by the end of this week.

Thanks again for all of the help.

Best Regards
David
