Is It Really A Vette Engine?
Hi,
I'm trying to verify that this is a Vette engine,
V1106CKX
Date: K32 (Nov, 3 1972)
3970010
But it is a 2 bolt main, didn't Vette's come with only 4 bolt mains?
Lastly, is it worth $500 as a rebuildable engine?
Thanks in advance,
RJ

You may want to check that info again. CKX does refer to a 350 200HP auto engine on a 1972 Corvette. The problem is the date of the engine is rather late to be in a 72. Nov. 72 was several months into the 73 model production and there was no CKX code on 73's for Corvettes. It may be from another model.

Hi, the info i have shows CKX for 1972 vette, 1973 camaro (2 barrel carb) and 1976 vette. Nov. engine date might have been put in a 1973 camaro. I'm not a chevy expert but hope this helps. take care,Ray

CKX was used three times:
'72 Base Vette engine with automatic
'73 Camaro with auto trans and 2-v carb (145hp)
'76 Vette, with automatic, 180 hp.
So...
The '76 is way too late. So is it the 72 vette engine or the 73 camaro engine.
Since the casting date is Nov 73, that would be for the '73 model year, which would mean you have a '73 Camaro engine that was 145 hp with 2-V carb and came with an automatic trans.

Sorry to dig up an old thread, but I have a small block with the same code and was wondering if anyone could tell which model and year it came from (Corvette or Camaro) based off the other code stamped next to it. (Part of the original car's VIN number I think).

Hi W,
Welcome!
The 'N' in the partial VIN sequence stamp indicates the Norwood assembly plant. So the engine was originally installed in a Camaro.
All Corvettes were assembled at 'S'… St.Louis.

Alan

Hi 540,
The engine wasn't originally installed in a Corvette.
It MIGHT be worth something to the person that now has the Camaro it went in.
Regards,
Alan

Nice information from Alan. 1973 Camaro engine. Not sure if there is a Camaro Black Book but it would be an engine for a Camaro enthusiast or someone that doesn't care about that stuff.
I have a 1977 engine here in good shape, two bolt mains, and you cannot give them away. I should know, I have tried. The engine building enthusiasts have faded away I am afraid making most of these boat anchors now.
Love learning about the engines, not discusses as much any longer.
Best regards,
David

and even if it was vette. it is a nothing special 200 hp engine. and few 200 hp vettes or 165 hp 73 Camaros are being numbers-matching restored. and those that are didn't lose track of the orig engines in the first place. and as david said, old small blocks aint worth much. you can buy a new crate 350 from a chebby dealer in VA for 1700 free shipping.

It is a nothing special 350 engine. Doesn't matter what the engine stamp says.
