Default outer heater a/c box

has any one replaced one in there car before? if so how did you do it? im just asking because i was thinking about when i striped my car, i had to take the motor out before i could get it out. it seems like if you had to replace it the motor or body would have to go before you could even get it out. same with the washer flued tank.what was chevy thinking??

Just pulled my AC outer box last week while detailing the engine compartment. I cleaned it and installed new seals.
I had my engine out too, which made it easier, but I think it could come out with the engine in. It splits in half.
Passenger side exhaust may need removed if the engine is in?

As for the washer jug, it will drop out the bottom of the fender compartment if you remove the triangular pan below the master cylinder and behind the tire. 4 bolts.

I was able to remove mine without having to remove the engine or the passenger exhaust manifold, and my car is a big block. So, if you have a small block, I believe it would be much easier.

Just replaced the heater/ac motor in my 80 s few weeks ago. Had to get the recovery tank out to get the heater motor out. Was a BIG PITA but after a half hour of manuvering the recovery tank in ever which way it finally came out through the top. Dave

Take the recovery tank out, then remove the splash shield from underneath the car and you can get to all the bolts to remove the fan side from the evap core/ac box. I had to split it in half to get out but it came out with the engine still in. You have to loosen a lot of the bolts from underneath but everything will come out the top. Takes a little twisting at times but it will come!

FWIW: all that stuff was installed before body drop when there was nothing in the way to impede progress. What was Chevy thinking? Easiest and quickest way to install the stuff on the assembly line.
